Types of Hunting, some one please explain

"Can't we all get along? " Rodney King 1991. As I said, public discussions about politics, religion, God & hunting get to be quite heated debates. C'mon guys, no need for bruised egos & name calling. Different strokes for different folks. What a f--king boring world it would be if we all thought, spoke, acted & believed the same way. Don't forget the thread of commonality that brings us to this forum in the first place, our love of shooting/ hunting. Don't take it all so personally & seriously & ESPECIALLY don't have expectations of getting others to ascribe to our own way of thinking. Expectations are resentments under construction. It takes all kinds of monkeys to make a circus if you know what I mean. That's the beauty of this crazy world for me. "Bush meat", "trophy hunting " just words. The only reason they evoke such powerful & visceral reactions is because each individual's understanding & response is fueled by emotions. Sorry but I ain't getting emotional over this one. Saving that for the important issues in my life. HAPPY HUNTING Y'ALL! No matter WHAT you hunt.

IMO definitions of words are just an agreed upon belief of what those words should mean. Whether they’re written by Webster’s dictionary or Wikipedia doesn’t make it fact. However, thank you for the entertainment gentleman, classic example of how emotional we can get defending our beliefs

Back in the day, lots of books on hunting whitetail deer contained chapters on "trophy hunting". The definition then was patterning a really big buck, concentrating only on that one buck, and not filling your tag if you were unsuccessful.

Over time the term "trophy hunter" has taken on a negative connotation..due mostly to anti hunting media bias. Talking heads need snappy terms that quickly generate a negative image. Bush meat is another media appropriated buzz word. Assault weapon is another.

Ask one of your non-hunting friends what the term "trophy hunter" means and you'll see how successful the media and antis have been in twisting the English language around.

Tis true what you say, but it was most enjoyable for me. Now, I’m off to hunt some Bush meat starlings.

Its a personal challenge and trophy hunting doesn't mean being a globe trotter. Just trying to get the best animal in your neck of the woods can be your goal, and most trophy hunters eat game or they would have never got into it in the first place. Some mention its just for bragging rights and makes no sense, why do people try to put pellets into the same hole at the range or competitions?

Thanks all, for sure I can see shoot first aim later minds here, but just a few ;)

it seems we are discussing semantics, at the end most seems to agree, that killing for no other reason that have fun and hang something in the wall is not good, and many hunt types might be confused (example: taking a life of an old elephant, without context the "antis" will take advantage)

Regarding bragging, mmm one thing is bragging on pellets and targets, and another is bragging with a life taking action, specially when is trophy hunting (the negative one). JMO. ;) do not get me wrong! when is for pest and meat hunting, I love bragging pics and videos :D

Several weeks ago I posted on this thread that there are many different types of hunting and that the ultimate and most rewarding experience was to really test yourself and your skills. See text below. Well a couple of days ago I got this bull bow hunting in Idaho. No guides, public land, wilderness camping. It was a fresh reminder of how true my earlier statement was. I can’t begin to describe the thrill, excitement, satisfaction and complete exhaustion that I experienced. Now it is time for a cold beer. Just hope I can stay awake long enough to drink it. Cheers!

There are different kinds of trophy hunting. For example if you hunt on public land with a bow and arrow for an elk or moose and you back pack in and carry the meat out on your back. That is one kind of trophy hunting. Another type is you pay lots of money to someone that owns a private ranch. They make you breakfast, drive you to your stand. The almost tame elk wander out into view. You shoot one with a 300 win. Pose for photos and brag about how you are a great Hunter. That is another kind of trophy hunting. There are many types of trophy hunting in between these two options. I know what is important to me and I don't understand how others justify what they do. However, I can assure you there is no greater satisfaction than going into the wild and putting your skills and abilities on the line 110%. I would get no satisfaction in buying a trophy and I guess those that do have no idea the excitement and satisfaction I feel when I test my self to the limit. Even if I am unsuccessful, if I gave it 110% I am proud of me and relish the experience.
