Ultimate Field Target Match at Phoenix Rod and Gun club THIS weekend (10/26/24)

Temps are cooling off, heralding the beginning of another winter. And in Arizona, that means Ultimate Field Target time!!!

Ben Spencer and Phoenix Rod and Gun Club are hosting the first UFT match of the winter season THIS weekend.

Forecasts are calling for a high of 93 and "east wind around 5 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon."

Dust off those slug slingers, those subsonic rimfires, and those high BC pellet flingers and spend an afternoon shooting at long range field targets with like minded folks.

On the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club website calendar but what Bens been doing for a few years now is the 4th Saturday of winter months. Typically October though April-ish. We landed on 4th Saturday to minimize conflict with other local airgun matches. (Airgunners of AZ FT matches on 3rd Sat and Phoenix Airgun Club FT matches on 2nd Sat).

I will be there…Vulcan 3 in 22 shooting 33 grain Zan slugs…..Figured what better place to see how it shoots off of bucket and sticks.

Should be good stuff. When Derrick lent me a .22 Vulcan 3 it did mighty well at one of our monthly UFT matches. Seems like I was using Varmint Knockers.

Have my Thomas HPX tuned sub 50 fpe using 32.3gr Altaros to see how that works for the winter.

Did you have a problem with your V3?

It'll be interesting to see how many show up this month to brave the heat. I'm going to fill my CamelBak full with ice hoping that'll keep me cooler.

I'm hearing you Steve, I just cant handle the heat the way I did in my younger years especially after I got heat stroked. Sure wish I could but I am forced to follow the cooler temps! Shoot well all of you that are able to make the match and looking forward to seeing all of you shortly!

Finally decided I'm going to try to make it tomorrow.

Planning to rock the .20 Ghost with the NSA slugs. It's got a PARD on there, and at only 11.5x max magnification I'm not sure I can be competitive with it. BUT I think it'll be cool if I can record my shots on the targets and splice it into a video. If all goes to plans, the video should give a good idea of what to expect for folks who haven't attended a match but might be interested in high power field target.

Nope, I decided to try my Zulus and see how the ranging works out.

i here you Dan. I was helping Garret lay out the WFT course yesterday. Just being out in the field for 4 hours wiped me out. We aren’t getting any younger for sure.

The groups started to open up and I don't have time to pull the barrel and give it a really good cleaning.....Pull through helped, but after 15 or so shots the group opened up again....So Tigger it will be....
