What does everyone think of the full Monty to this point?
I like the format a lot.
As Steve pointed out, the parameters combine for a lot of strategizing....with the 50fpe limit, a guy can't bull his way through the wind with caliber and fpe. And the 3/8kzs also somewhat penalize larger calibers....with the trade off of probably having a higher hit percentage on the far targets with a high BC/FPE of a larger caliber....lots of pros and cons to mentally work through, and that has been FUN!
I spent a bunch of time getting dope on a potential full Monty gun on Friday of last week. This gun shoots pellets and slugs quite well, and I noticed that the pellet accuracy was better than the slug accuracy on the 10-25 yard shots. But that pellet advantage flips somewhere around 50 yards, where the slugs outpace the pellets in keeping true to their flight path (wind). So
@steve123, I think we're all in the same boat of trying to figure out how best to tackle this unique problem. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but in the last two matches the Full Monty high score has been
@5Power, using .22/25.4grain Monster RDs at just below the 50fpe cutoff. She seems to have found a happy medium of caliber, fpe, BC, and near AND far accuracy.
Generally though..... I like the 72 shot match. If I'm driving that far to shoot a match, I like to shoot more, rather than less. I like the 50fpe limit. I like the REALLY hard targets like the 3/8" kill zone at 22 yards or whatever it was. I like the 4 minute limit for 6 shots. I like that we've still got standing shots (although would personally prefer true offhand, versus standing bipod, but I'm likely in the minority here).
The Full Monty class of UFT fits my airgun mentality by leaning more towards lower power. And it does that without taking away the opportunity for the 60, 70, 80, 90fpe guys to be able to come and shoot their guns in the high power class.
