The Hammer 50 gets 3 identical pressure shots, 1 more shot that is 95% of the first 3 plus at least one more shot with enough energy to dispatch a wounded deer. There is a 90ci 4500 psi carbon wrapped refill bottle that, in addition to the main tank fill, brings the total shots to 8-9 if you refill after each shot.
The Hammer 50 was created to develop sufficient energy to be used for all big game in North America with the exception of dangerous game. Although hunting deer and hogs is the primary focus the gun has sufficient energy for bigger game if used properly with an understanding of the capability.

The Hammer 50 used at the SHOT Show has a 1:15 twist rate. The faster twist tends to stabilize lighter weight bullets (under 180g) in sabots well and is accurate with heavy lead but does cause a little loss in velocity in much heavier bullets. The engineers are Umarex are experimenting with slower twists to find the optimum rate so shooters can use the widest range of bullet weights and types with good accuracy.

There is no relation between the Hammer 50 and the Gauntlet. The Hammer was developed around a new type of valve that does not require great cocking force to open, and it opens very quickly. The valve is pending patent. The Hammer has a chamber magazine whereby you shoot through the magazine. There is no probe pushing a pellet into the barrel. This is pending patent as well. The Hammer project began with a wish, an idea, engineers and a clean sheet of paper. The objective was to create a big game airgun which would have sufficient energy, accuracy and quietness to convince many states to approve airguns for deer hunting. The Hammer is made in the USA. It has been a 2 1/2 year project. The first test gun has been shot over 1200 times.

The Gauntlet has a conventional spring-hammer actuated valve that is very refined to yield the consistent shot to shot performance with the regulator. It has a barrel manufactured with a new process to give great accuracy. No one is allowed into this room. The Gauntlet is manufactured in higher volume in a new state of the art facility. The objective was to deliver very high performance at an affordable price so as to encourage many to try PCP airguns. It has been a 2 1/2 year project.
