Tuning Umarex M1A1 Thompson Repair

I was just looking for this German fellow who field stripped a Umarex MP-40, When I last looked his post was unavailable. Now it is back up. It is very good (only in German; you will have to turn on your sub-titles for translation). Any way take a look there are many screws and parts to take off.
So anyway see the link below.




NOTE:
This fellow is in Germany (I think, he is speaking in German); anyway Germany does not allow "automatic fire" for BB guns, airsoft yes 4.5 Cal BBs no. So the gun is a single fire only. Germany has a law that specifies "everything that has a muzzle velocity over 0.5 joules (about 230 fps with 0.2) is considered a weapon in Germany and therefore cannot have full auto function.
Although... if you live in a country that "does" allow automatic Co2 BB guns it is very simple to make the Co2 BB gun fully automatic. However it will be auto only, which by coincidence is exactly like the real MP38/MP40 actually were designed; no single fire.
WARNING: If you DO live in a country that does not allow auto fire take my advice "DO NOT MAKE THE CHANGE!" I would never advise that, it would be breaking the LAW.

Called Pyramid- said have to work through Umarex. Called them. Guy said- “ 90 day warranty, gun cannot be fixed, you will have to buy a new one”. Maybe guy was having a bad day.

Have texted Pyramid to see if they’ll exchange. Retired- don’t want to spend another $230.00. Probably just as expensive to fix. If Pyramid can’t help it becomes a wall hanger and conversation piece and a chance for buddies to hold a replica when we play pool.

After about 4000 rounds through my m1a1, I have the same problem. Trigger wont fire and safety switch is jammed. No warranty. All I want is a schematic to see what I am dealing with before I fully take it apart. I don't want to remove screws and have parts flying around. I'll deal with this in the next few days if I can't get more info. Removing the top cover does not give you access to the trigger mechanism.

Cool! Thanks. I just talked to Umarex, they will replace my gun, even out of warranty!
But, I'll copy this for future reference! Do you know where I can get a copy of this thats bigger? When I blow it up its pixilated and the small parts just look like pixils.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the pixelization, and that's even after I sharpened it up with a photo editing tool. Have not found a better resolution copy anywhere else, but I'll keep my eyes open. I'm seriously considering buying the Thompson and MP-40. But before I buy any newer design airgun, I like to see what parts availability is like and whether there is a schematic for it, which is what lead me to find the one I posted here. Good to hear that Umarex is going to replace your defective gun.

As an aside, if anyone needs a schematic for the Legends MP40, here's a fairly clear one I found on the website of a UK parts outfit-

The schematic for the Legends MP40 is great , so now we have a schematic and an actual takedown (albeit in German) for the Legends MP40.

Northwoods22 I have all three M1A1, MP-40 and the M3A1 I never looked back. Sooooo much fun, so little time.

Yes they have a growing problem, started off just another Air Gun manufacture now they have started something with the Legends brand and they really do not know how big it is; that is called a "paradigm shift". I think I see signs that they may be finally; (at least a little bit) catching the drift of things. But time will only tell.

So far after 3 years all of my Legends guns (ALL WWII SMGs, Luger, P-38, Webley etc.) are working fine even after thousand's of .177 Cal BBs. have been shot thru them. I do not know how many Co2 cartridge's I have went thru but it is a lot; I know it is a bucket full.

As a customer I an only interested in the Legends WWII brand; I have other Air Guns (many), but none are as exciting as the Legends Brand WWII era.

So my message to Umarex is KEEP going before some other manufacturer catches up and starts doing what you do, only better, faster and with more historical WWII BB guns (all with Automatic fire). I am completely NOT interested in Air Soft guns.

So there you have it I have said my piece, take it of leave it.

Outward quality and accurate reproduction of my M1A1 is second to none, but the internals are questionable. They will be sending me a new gun, so hopefully some of the weaknesses have been addressed. Also the fact that they are replacing my gun out of warranty appears to be a big improvement in prior customer support.

Well yeah, I guess except for the M1A1 stock. On the WWII .45 Thompson SMG the stock could be released and slid off backwards to shorten the length of the SMG for carrying in a bag when not in use with the press of a single button detaching the stock.

Try using 100% silicone oil on the the selector switch the trigger when the gun is upside down. All moving parts should be lubricated on the gun (100% silicone oil). It did wonders for my M1A1, MP-40 and M3A1 grease gun, not to mention all of my other .177 Cal BB guns.

You can do the same thing with the Umarex M1A1. Push the button and the gun stock and bottom half slides off into 2 pieces.

I don't actually have any of the Legends guns yet. Probably get the M1A1 first. Good to know silicone oil works well with these guns. I always keep plenty on hand (most of my guns are springers).

The real M1A1 one could just remove the stock, just the stock, just slide it off.
To separate the Umarex M1A1 ( nothing to do with with the STOCK), you have to remove the bolt cocking handle (by unscrewing the bolt Handel); again nothing to do with the STOCK!
Then push the rear button and separate the upper from the lower on the Umarex BB gun.
You are writing about a completely different operation than I am, I hope that clears up what I am addressing.
The M1A1 Umarex "LOOKS" like the M1A1 but it does not have the same functionality as the real M1A1 Thompson SMG; obviously.
That is what I was commenting about.
I want would've liked to have seen a removable stock on the Umarex M1A1; that's all.

You're thinking of the Model 1928 Thompson SMG. It had a quick detach buttstock that would slide off the rear of the receiver after pressing a spring loaded button. The M1A1 guns did away with that feature and used two long screws to attach the stock to the receiver, so the Umarex M1A1 replica is functionally correct.

I have found that that is simply NOT TRUE, buying a new one is the absolute last resort. I have repaired my M1A1 and my MP-40 easily. My M3A1 has shown no problems so far.

First choice would be the German Fallschirmjager rifle, the FG42 2nd Pattern. Second would be the Sturmgewehr 44.
