"Umarex Wishes And Canex Dreams!"

Umarex unveiled the .177 Canex co2 repeating carbine at Shotshow 2024: small, light (3lbs), 2x12g co2, 600 fps with lead pellets, 10 round circle magazine (3 included), double action only (sub 5lbs), open sights scope, price: $59!
I own the excellent Umarex Brodax bb gun ($39), and the 1022, so I have confidence that this little budget plinker will be everything I wanted the Crosman 1077 to be at 1/2 the price (not badmouthing the venerable 1077).
Problem is, still no Canex! I called Umarex several months ago to get a stock date and the rep said it could be next year, he hadn't heard.
Anyway, here's hoping!

I picked one up at Tractor Supply Co. last Friday. Was suppose to cost $58.99. I have a bad habit of not looking at what I've been charged until I get home. Rang up at $49.99. After giving it a once over, drove 8 miles back to pick it 2 more. Amazon has mags 3 for $12.99 . I'm currently 3D printing a slip on muzzle shroud to mount a globe front sight and printing my version of an old Redfield international Olympic recever sight. Looking good so far. I should be ready for the 2028 games. Seriously, this is the perfect platform to get a kid interested. I think when I get the dimensions right I should be able to sell a turn key 10m set up for $20. If umarex sells any more Canex. The rear sight will work on anything.
One thing to note is on the umarex box they have a picture and words pointing to the fiberoptis front sight. The guns don't have anything that looks remotely like. Not a deal breaker for me. I'll try and post pictures when I get my new 10m match rifles set up. LoL!

Great news and a great deal. The canex looks like a fun picnic gun, too. I look forward to photos of your 3d sights. Id love to hear any info on the trigger and accuracy you might share.

Well no complaints for the price of a toy pistol. But the metal barrel shroud is rolled sheet metal welded underneath. It looks good though. Has a nice taper. Could easily be mistaken for a Ruger 10/22 rim fire from a couple of feet away. The printed barrel shrouds i made snap on each exactly the same way which astonishes me that there that consistent. The stock front sight is a plastic insert. One leans to the right just a little. As far as I can tell without co2, the trigger is very light long, very smooth pull and they all seem to sear at the same point. I'll know more Saturday when set up my new 10meter range in the basement. I will only go outside out of nesseity. Minus 5 here all day. I shot 50 foot small bore .22 rim fire as a kid at Shadic millatary school. I'm excited about having a range. Maybe some day I'll run across a real match pellet rifle.
I did also just drink the Air venturi avege-x cool aid so I built a trap that will likely stop a .357 magnum.

I spent my afternoon tinkering with my rear receiver sight design. I worked out some details but this is pretty much it for my 10 meter Umarex Canex receiver sight. I have a another revision to do to make the elevation guide pins flush and sink the brass threaded insert flush. The peep is currently a 4mm metric so I'll make it standard peep thread like the Williams and Redfield Olympic international match I have next to it in this picture. Match peeps for high power cartridge rifles come in many diameter so I think I'll provide 2 standard small that can be easily drilled because I know nothing about 10 meter match aputures and what is required.
I do remember that in 50 foot indoor small bore rimfire I did best offhand "that's what we called standing." with a very large peep. The Umarex Canex receiver dovetail is about .015" narrower than the standard 11mm's I had to compare it with. So I had 3 revision on the dovetail to make it a perfect fit with no slop on all three of my rifles so that for design simplicity it's just slides on and two sets screws will secure it. Also i made room for a .008" brass shim to keep the screws from digging into the top of the receiver.
I started this endeavor because I recently have acquired a 3D printer and the simplicity of its use and precision almost negate my ability's as a tool and die machinist / fixture designer. ---"Almost"! --- I looked at what I could buy and there's a 11mm / 3/8" dovetail Williams sight found on E-bay with target knobs for $70. I have had a few variations and there is nothing wrong with any Williams sights I have had. It's just I didn't want to spent that on rifles that cost 1/3rds less. Plus I'm puting together 3 rifes to compare. Time and materials making a sight from metal my self doesn't make sense. Anschutz or the others are way overkill for at least rifles of this price point. I can provide a sight that will do what is required at 10 meters for about $20. I'm thinking of all the Beeman QB guys out there and maybe someone could start a honor system online match site for real world budget air rifle tuners. So that those of us that don't want or can't spend $4500 on a rifle could have fun and show our tuning ability. Not to kick stones at those company that have invested millions to build precision rifles and equipment for that technology.

Many thanks for all the good info and photos of your canex rifles. Congratulations on the 3D printing success. $20 is extremely reasonable. (I still carry an old flip phone, so 3d printing is way beyond me.)
I like your honor system idea, and I think that dollar for dollar, the qb78/79 is the best co2 air rifle for the money in airgun history.
It sounds like the canex may one day be considered the most fun co2 rifle for the money.
Thanks again!

@Pelletsport Thank you for your encouragement on my sight design. Let me know if you end up with a Umarex Canex. I' ll send you a set. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. I think a target style rear sight and a front sight sleeve with a dovetail mount for target style globe front sight fitting comenly found rifles like Beman QB AR2078b rifle might be appreciated by budget minded peaple. Amazon is selling those Beeman co2 guns right now for $190. The thing that keeps me from buying one is I don't know how good the sights are. " Not that I can't make my own." But if i need to make my own, why wouldn't i buy the $110 Beeman QB. There's a youtube video review about the new synthetic stock version. The guy was very happy with the rifle but disappointed that it came with plastic target sights. I can only imagine the sight might be like the Daisy plastic sights that can be bought at Airgun Depot for $38. As you mentioned that these Beeman QB co2 guns are a good value, I think people have a misconception about co2 and don't realize that co2 has a flater consistent shot curve because co2 maintaining its pressure as It's a liquid being converted to a gas and capable of maintaining pressure over a longer shot string, where the alternatives are to have a large pcp tank to reduce effects of bleed down per shot or have a regulated gun. I bought these Umarex Canex as a fun project to make alterations to for the fun of tuning.

Sorry no shooting yet. Better hardware arrived to build my sights. Still waiting on the hardware for the peep. Real work instead of fun work keeps getting in the way. I still intend on attaching a scope and posting groups as I tinker with these Umarex Canex rifles to see what kind of accuracy thier capable of and what lapping the barrel might do to improve acurecey. The intention is to build a Olympic competitor style rifle for under $100.00. that anyone can put together. Mainly the idea is to get kids of all ages shooting and maybe have an honor system on line match posting somewhere. Everyone and all rifles accepted. All for fun of course. I plan on building these rear receiver sights and globe front sight attachment specificly for the Umarex Canex that I will sell for $20. I Also plan on making a as close as possible of my interpretation of a Redfield Olympic international match sight that will fit any rifle with a dovetail or a weaver/ picatinny type rail. Happy holidays.

Gun #1 at the start. As it stands I would not recommend these gun to a novice or a kid because of the malfunction which could be potentially dangerous. I'll go into more detail when I have more time and organize my thoughts better, I don't think the pointed crossman are a good choice but they were all I had around. I think you're original idea of making a single shot tray and doing something to the trigger is right on the money. I'm super happy with my iron sight that are 3D printed from plastic.
