Understanding my Cricket. 25

Dear mates,
I have recently bought my Gen 1 Cricket I. 25. I had issues with the ever incr Reg pressure, incr from 140 to 190 bar in a span of three to four days after each refill.
So frustrating that I had opened up the gun to adjust the Regulator nine times with trial and error method, by loosening the derlin plug (thanks to Mr Ernest Rowe).
Now, I have installed a Huma Reg with mk set on 140 bar. However, the Plenum guage shows 135 or 136 bar. HST is just one turn back from max pre load.

We, in India, are unfortunate to get our guns tuned by experienced personnel as Mr Charlie Frear. The person who sold me gun says it should be between 920 to 930 fps with JSB Heavies 34 gns.
I request for the inputs on following:-
1. I am just curious to know by the experience of .25 Cricket owners as to how much fps with Heavies I shall be getting, as i am not able to get any chrono as of now at my location ?? (Buying issues..... nothing coming easily from China nowadays).

2. Without drilling the port, etc, without change of valve spring, hammer, etc, is it okk to incr the regulator pressure to 150 bar. Will it take the velocity to arnd 970 fps ??? Also, won't there be more wear and tear of the components in the receiver block ???

The queries are of very basic level, but we have lot of issues even on airgunning in India.
I will be very glad to have opinion/ inputs from respected members.

Regards

Hello , are you speaking about the 1st generation Cricket , about 6 years old , or another model ? In the case of the "old" Cricket .25 I shoot JSB 34gr at 860-880 ft/s , Huma reg set to 135 bar , HST 1 and 3/4 turn back from max. I use resized and lubed pellets and I think this range of speed gives me very good accuracy , no need to go higher with pellets , and my gun dislikes slugs....

Hello, thank you very much for the reply.
Mine is Gen 1 with plenum installed. So, with your data and the feet of plenum, it should be between 910 to 925, I.e, 63 to 64 fpe.

But friend, I am just curious to take it to atleast 71 to 72 fpe with two conditions :-
1. Without any permanent modifications as drilling ports, etc.
2. Without any risk to the internals of the Rceiver Block.

Mate, to be honest, I intend to keep it ready for taking hogs upto 100lbs from arnd 60 to 65 yards distance.

Will be grateful for your opinion pl.

Regards

As I remenber , the Cricket 1 is set at about 57 fpe from factory.I don't know if it's possible to reach 72 fpe ; you shoud increase the reg pressure to maybe 150-160 bar and put a stronger hammer spring ....I'm pretty sure the cricket could sustain such a power , but are you sure it's really needed to shoot pigs at 65 yards? I believe that a head shot with a 34grs at 860-880 Ft/s would do the job. Take a look at the hunting section on this site , it could help.

I recently bought the Cricket Tactical 60 in .22, and it shoots accurately with the NSA 17.5grs .216 . Now I'm going to try the NSA 34.9grs .250 and 29.5 grs .249 just to see the result...until now all others slugs didn't give me good groups in the Cricket .25. I think slugs is the way to go for hunting .
Here in Europe it's quite cold , so I'll wait for better conditions to test.

It sounds like your original regulator was creeping and needed replacement O-rings. That's what happens, the plenum pressure goes higher and higher over time with no changes to the regulator adjustment because an o-ring is allowing pressure from the reservoir to bleed directly into the plenum. Then your velocity begins to drop because the valve doesn't open as much with too much pressure in the plenum.

It sounds to me like you're trying to make educated guesses on your settings without a chronograph to get yourself started hunting. Until you get a chronograph, you are relying on guesses for your velocity. The chronograph is the only proper tool to use when tuning your hammer energy with regulator pressure.

Thanks mate..... being not more than an yr into PCPs at the age of 41 now, perhaps is making me knowing too much too early. Rather, the non-availabilty of any air gnrs here (over .177 is FAC) in this cal has made to rely on inputs from social media and veterans like you in the fd.
Thanks again.

I own a Charlie Frear Power Tuned Gen-1 Cricket in .25, it does about 65fpe with the 34gr pellets. I’m pretty sure that’s close to it’s maximum potential for power. If it was capable of more, I am pretty sure that either Charlie, Derrick, or perhaps someone else would have already done it. I could be wrong, but I have never seen it done.
Thanks for the reply. I have been fortunate to receive a mail from Mr Charles Frear yesterday on my query. He clearly stated that moving even Huma reg over 133 bar not going to do much benefit.
You are perfectly right that ways.

Thanks for responding. I will go for slugs certainly.
AVS .253 36 grns shall be doing good as per the recent video on YT in Cricket.

Thanks. You are absolutely right. I need to get the chrono asap, otherwise I will be just wasting lots of air and pellets.
