Up until now I thought the RAW HM1000x was a great shooter

This 25 cal RAW I purchased late last summer has never shot great groups. I couldn't get it to group less than an inch at 50 yards and today I tried it at 22 yards with a couple different head sizes as well as slugs. It shot terrible. Below are a couple targets to show what I mean. If it can't stack pellets at 22 yards, indoors with no wind or other elements, it will never shoot good at 100 yards. Occasionally it will plant a ho-hum group, but no where as precise as my Maverick using the same pellets from the same tin. Think this will have to go back to Martin to figure out where he went wrong with the tune/setup. I am using a March Hi Master 48x scope with No Limits rings.

Following targets are RAW:

Compare to my Maverick shooting same pellets from same tin:

I picked up a RAW 1000X LRT in October when I bought out an airgunners collection. He decided he wanted to go a different direction and was no longer interested in air guns. This particular gun was bought new from Airguns of Utah and tuned to shoot the JSB heavies at 900 fps. It shot "scattergun" at 25, 35, and 50 yards. What the heck? I brought it inside, removed the moderator and ran my crown saver through the barrel with several patched soaked in Ballistol. Then I followed up with dry patches until they came out clean. Loaded up a mag and, the difference was night and day! This gun was grouping at 50 yards and no flyers. As with all things shooting; your mileage may vary, but this worked for me. Doesn't hurt to try.

Just a quick addendum: I had put the gun up for sale in the classifieds , but now I'm having so much fun with it that it's no longer for sale.

I religiously clean with ballistal after every 100 or so shots. Let me be clear: I have a RAW in 22 that shoots same hole out to 25 yards. This gun has NEVER shot good groups from day one. Yes 48 power is high power, but unless you’ve tried it at 25, don’t try to advise me to turn down power. My Maverick shoots like the above target all day at 25 with 40x scope. My 22 RAW shoots bug holes all day with a 45x scope.

Ross...definitely needs a Martin massage! I'm sending mine in Monday for a complete reseal/tune and replace anything that needs well, replacing...plus hopefully a more accurate pressure gauge....3 week turn around 👍.

I sent him an email with the above pics. We'll see what he says.

Martin advised me to up the speed on the 34 grain pellets - they were shooting too slow at 875fps ave. So today I upped the power adjuster by about 2 turns and it upped the speed average to over 900fps with a STD dev of 4. I'm sure with dinking around with the hammer spring I can tighten the STD dev and perhaps the groups, but for now this is the consistency I have achieved at 25 yards:

Ross, nice! Have you tried the 25gr JSB's? Your barrel might like slinging things FAST. Maybe try some 25gr @ this tune....
Once I get this dialed for 34 grain, I'll try my 25's. I really want this dialed in for slugs at 100 yards - that's where I'm headed.

Ross, I've heard the .25 platform is less fussy for slugs than the .22 👍.
Hope you are right. I was told that the lighter H&N slugs do very well in the 25 cal. We'll see. Here's a target from earlier when it wasn't shooting consistent. Granted this is 25 yards - not 100, but indications are that one of these might do well.

Keep in mind, the speed was low and the rifle wasn't shooting consistent. Didn't try these after I dialed in the power adjuster. I have both 249 and 250.

48X at 22yds??? How can you even see the target at that magnification.Try turning the power way down if that is a variable scope. Do As stated, cleaning works wonders. Also, try dropping your fill pressure down to 210-230

I use 50x at 15 to 25 yards when I am testing ammo and settings. I was surprised to see how much movement I had with my technique and rest that went unnoticed with lower power optics. Even my heartbeat is enough to open up groups if my face is touching the gun.

Exactly. Aim small — miss small.
