Upstate NY *HORRIBLE* weather today *BUT* . . .

. . . my new gun showed up! I have yet to take shot 1 with it yet - just put a scope on it ( not sure if this will be the scope and rings combo but for now . . . ). Friggin' weather outside today has been cold (low to mid 30's) with WICKED winds - like gale force 30 & 40 mph gusts, snowing on and off, etc . . . just miserable out there.

But - in the meantime - my brand spanking new Taipan Veteran Long .22. 👊 💪 😁

I sure do hope we get better weather in a few days - I cannot wait to get outdoors and shoot it, sight it in, etc . . .

:) Thanks all. Pretty cool to see a few upstate NY folks in here too. Those us us that live here know that NY is a surprisingly big state and "Upstate" can cover a HUGE area. To those of you who don't live in NY - we consider ourselves different from NYC(ity). That's downstate. That's a different place altogether. That ain't us. We have farms and cows. :) A couple of you are CNY'ers too which is even 'better' as I generalized 'Upstate' in the title - I'm actually CNY also - "Southern Tier" CNY as the area is known - Binghamton area. Hopefully after the covid mess clears - maybe we'll see one another sometime, somewhere out & about shootin' or at a meet, or . . . whatever. :) @Dairyboy - yeah Tony hooked me up with this thing - we discussed it over the phone a couple of times re: how did I want it tuned, what extra stuff might I want for it, etc .... fantastic service.

This morning in CNY ❄️ Old Man Winter isn't leaving yet! Look me up when the Covid thing is behind us. I have a decent place to shoot (and shoot year 'round) :)

Jim,
Congratulations on your new gun! Awesome!
These Taipan Veterans are absolutely amazing. You're gonna' love it!
[I had a Vet Shorty in .25 cal for a while - Tiny but packed a BIG punch]

As if things couldn't get any worse here in NY . . . of course we'd get more freeze and s**w. [Edit for four-letter-word] 😀
Hopefully it'll warm back up and stay that way sooner than later, and you'll really get to have fun shooting!

I didn't get the chance to get a very good white-out shot,
but snapped this one after most of that nasty white stuff melted..

Yuck..

COME ON SUMMER!!

😊👍

Sam -

{sigh} Yeah. I'm boxing it up and sending it back. ( lol ) It'll be 90* and sunny now.

NOT!!!

East of Syracuse ( where I'm at now for work ) it's actually not to bad out - still a little cool but pretty sunny skies and just a slight bit of a breeze. Saturday supposed to be 60'ish . . . hopefully this damned weather will finally break!

'K - update on this new toy. I got to (FINALLY) shoot it a little bit this evening after I got home from work. Temp wasn't ~bad~ - high 30's, low 40's - yeah - as of late that's not bad. {sigh} A little bit of a breeze. I had enough time to put a target out in the back yard at 30'ish yards and get the scope more or less zeroed.

The trigger on this thing . . . whoa. It's just like *everything* I've read / seen (via youtube) about it - friggin' awesome!! Light on the first stage and CRISP when it breaks which is also really light and easy. She's a shooter. Once I got it dialed in I was getting pretty tight groupings - just shooting out the back of my barn off of sticks. I'm going to park it on a homemade bench and park it on a bipod and/or sandbag and really get steady with it - maybe Saturday if forecast holds true. But for just winging out a magazine or two off of sticks - ala field target style - it was layin' the smack down on the target I was using.

The rear mounted side lever cocking . . . 'eh. Is this an acquired taste?

My other two guns that I have - a .177 m-rod (bolt action cocking just slightly behind the trigger) and my AA S510 - also a side lever cocker BUT much more forward just above the trigger. I'm most definitely WAY more used to those. I can shoot and "reload" both of those w/out even taking my eye away from the scope if I want to. Shooting the Taipan this evening -- right now I've no idea / comfortable way of cocking it w/out taking it off shoulder. Obviously I'll get more time with it and perhaps learn / figure something out - tips from those of you who do shoot 'em?

It (the Taipan) shoulders beautifully though for me, my body size / my build - ie; just bring it up to your eye as though going to shoot it standing off hand. The only two other guns I've ever shot are aforementioned m-rod and AA (above) and while I can shoulder them they're both kind of long and it's really hard to 'get steady'. The Taipan, being a bit shorter over all, initially it seems like I can hold it much steadier. I'll have to try some off hand with it in the not to distant future.

If the Taipan had forward cocking it would be in my stable... it’s a fine looker... the rear cocking is a non-starter for me. But the looks and performance of that gun are very, very alluring.
