User Profile Red Flag?

I don't see myself being the only one with a concern when this pops up:

Being that the member has something up on the classifieds, this is a big red flag to me. Buyers beware.

Your thoughts?

Internet privacy tends to strongly be a generational thing. Millennials, like myself, who were teenagers when the internet and social media came about, were firmly taught to safeguard privacy online. This went out the window with the next younger generation who grew up relying on social media from a very early age since it was there when they were born. It is the center of their lives and they don't care about such online privacy. All they know is status updates and likes and shares. The generations before millennials were all adults when internet/social media came about, so they didn't have the privacy warnings pounded into them.

So, certainly apply red flags wherever you see fit. It's your money. But do keep in mind there is much more to it, and it is more common than some may realize.

Does seeing this not mean that you've been blocked? That's what my impression was.

Also a Millennial, I feel like if someone wanted to buy something I was selling and asked if they could check out my profile, I think I would be cool with that as long as they didn't seem like a huge weirdo. How about you, if you thought it was necessary to hide your profile info would you be ok with someone asking to see what is up with you before they pulled the trigger on buying something from you?

I didn't even realize we had such settings. Just checked it out. I think I'll set mine so nobody can message me and then post some sweet deals in the classifieds.

I think it would be easier to sell/buy something if other people can check out your profile. Internet security is important, but I don't think there's anything too sensitive in our profiles on here.

I have changed my position on this 180 degrees. There is so little info on our profile pages that it doesn't really make sense not to share it. Does it show you my full name. Well that name is also on the roster at the Rio Salado air rifle matches, nearly always at the bottom. (hence the nickname) Unless they give a legit reason that is very plausible or we have people in common, I wouldn't make a big deal of it, just politely decline to complete a transaction.
