Tuning USFT regulated and moderator removal

I have two questions about my USFT, perhaps the collective has answers, if so please chime in. TIA

First, has anyone removed their moderator or air stripper? I’ve removed the grub screw on the underside of the moderator but cannot seem to budge the moderator. I am guessing it is held on using Loctite, but fear that it might be an interference fit. Anyone know? I will call Tim as soon as he opens again, just in a hurry..

Secondly, has anyone converted their unregulated MAC1 to a regulated version? Is this a worthwhile investment in your humble opinion.

regards,

S

I'll be interested to read about the update on your USFT! Did Tim give you a breakdown of whats involved in the update and estimate of cost? I was eyeing one in the classifieds a while back. I don't own one, but have been curious about them. I've read member Franklink's write up on his(fantastic read!) and really enjoyed that. Love USA made! Well, except the barrel. Oh well.

Since there are not alot of these, maybe you could post a picture? For the "before update".

Hello Pea-shooter - here is a before pic

not 100% certain the HPA kit is going to be an improvement on the looks of this gun, but the functionality ought to go up several fold. The USFT is within 5-6 fps for about 20-25 shots in 40' weather - I expect that number of shots that will be this consistent will go up. Cost, I expect to be between $500-600 for the new barrel, strip-t and HPA kit - I did not ask. When it gets back to me I'll post another picture.

Love the orange! But yes, a face only a mother could love with the hpa set up. I like the unregulated tube look. I've wondered how a Huma fit into the tube would perform. It would need a fill port added upstream and a vent for the regulator. But I think the reservoir tube has a max PSI of 1800? So the overall shot count might not increase much. I hope your gun updates turn out awesome!

Thanks, Jason

To those who are interested, I finally got a hold of Tim and got my answers

First - The moderator is an interference fit

Second - will have mu USFT updated to Gen 3 spec, including the HPA kit, so you are going to have to wait for an answer on this front.

Cheers,

S
What is an interference fit? I just bought a 2011 unregulated USFT with an air stripper and am thinking about switching to a moderator. It's not clear how to remove the air stripper. Thanks,

Hello RScott. The initial thought was that the moderator was fit onto the barrel and epoxied. I think it was actually held in place with a grub screw. Not sure which stripper you have. I have seen two designs offered. One a simple T and a more complex stripper.
the complex version is definitely mounted using grub screws. I don’t know about the simple T. I may go to the range on Sunday and one of the guys has that simpler version. I can check and advise.

best is probably to speak to Tim - that reminds me I have a barrel with said moderator to hunt down….
