value of gas powered Bauer Oceanus

I am looking to purchase a 250 hours Bauer Oceanus. Gas powered (Honda GX160 - I believe)
First pictures I saw it looked clean. Supposedly recent service on the engine and a new filter.
It is an older model with the grey safety cover - I am trying to get more information - what else is important to know ?

Is $3500 reasonable or overpriced?

thanks for your input.

Hour meter, service record if possible. Seeing it run & fill would be great.
Ask how long the oil, filter were last changed. Where was it stored and last run.

it’s definitely worth it if it’s problem free.

Right...

The gas portable scuba compressor don't go cheap around here .. $1500+/- and it looks well used and abused off a dive boat ..lol

I guess it's used and comes down to knowing hrs. And service record / how well maintained.

Looks like standard maintenance kits are started at 500 hrs and then up

Old ad but maybe a example on any worth

As long as it's not seized up engine at worse Maybe carb rebuild / or just old gas gunk removal .

The compressor part it's self ??? I'd assume maybe at worse re seal like you may get in a service kit .

Heck you may just squirt gas on the cards throat and it busts off fine ..

I've had stuff set that long and worse was old gas gunking up the carbs small holes and maybe needle valve/ float . Carb cleaner and TLC fixes that up .

You could use that setting up age time to deal a better price like unseen repair cost you'd take the chance on .

Or ..

You both agree to see it run and build pressure

With that if it works as expected pay the man .

If something fails then bargain on it again for a better price .

GX 160 engines go for $450. So even if they (were stupid, used E10 fuel and) gunked the carbs you can probably replace the engine for $450. Will you not be able to hook up a tank and top off before you buy it?
This is a non issue imho. I get more free generators and engines because of a clogged low speed jet and a corroded throttle blade shaft than I can mention. Wire brush bristle cleans out the plastic slow speed jet and some penetrating oil frees the throttle shaft. At worst you can buy a complete carb kit on amazon for 20 dollars.

Depending on what is on the compressor the price is expensive. The bauer compressors are like fx guns on ebay. 3 generations out of date and still full retail priced. But its basically forever serviceable unlike the tuxing chinese dive clone I purchased. Imo the compressor, air handling and any regulators on the unit are the main purchase. The gasoline engine is less of an issue in the grand scheme of things.

For that moolah I’d buy an alkin
For airgun community yes, as we do not fill tanks anywhere close to the amount scuba tanks fillers use. The Alkin will likely be new at 4500. You have to look at service centers too. Do a search on alkin repair centers and Bauer and see who has more. While the Alkin has a loyalty with air gunners. It has also been considered lower end for scuba in the past. While I think a alkin will serve your needs for your airgun lifetime, I also think the Bauer will have better resale value as well as more customers (scuba and airgun vs. just airgun) willing to buy it preowned vs a Alkin.

The twist is are the latest newer aigun high end compressors better or more reliable than the older Bauer or even the Alkin 31? Look at the Daystate Super Leggero. At 2599 are you saving money or is it wasted money? Compare the fill times. Is you time worth something?

By the way I think the 3500 is a very good value if it is a good running machine. It may still be a good value if you need to spend money on repairs. But as a airgunner is it money well spent for your use?
Will it be stationary or portable for where you use it, and will you be able to handle pull starting it as necessary when you need?

I would not be afraid of the honda motor sitting for a time, thay are easy to clean and parts for them are easily available. I use Honda and Briggs and Statton motors on my mining equipment and hooka diving system. As to the compressor, I have no knowledge of it other than a diving charter in California had one to fill his diving tanks on the boat. He said that he has had it for three years and has had zero issues with it.
