Crosman Vantage NP .177

This is my first ever gas ram rifle. Not 100 percent sure what to make of this tech just yet. The bad stuff out of the way quickly....ups gave a terrible delivery experience(nothing against the gun there), the scope is what I expected, and what the reviews said it would be.

The look of the rifle is plain. But good. The dovetail seems to be aligned rather well. No scuffs, scrapes or dings upon inspection. LOP is a good fit and the ambi cheek riser is better than I thought. Shot cycle feels very strong, and is definitely different to a spring gun. I ran it over the chrono after having put about 100 shots through it.

About what I expected with heavy ammo. Pretty consistent for not being close to broken in. Total spread from 814-826, most shots are around 818.
I tried the scope. I went through all the same procedures as I would setting up a nice scope....I have removed the scope. Original open sights are usable, but I would prefer only fiberoptic on the front. Atm I mounted the williams peeper out back. Still getting the gun sighted in, and I have only tried the 1 kind of ammo atm.
From the looks of everything, this is the same as my cabelas outfitter with gas ram instead. Which makes the stocks interchangeable between those 2 models, as well as the Remington summit and a few others.
I have bearings for the trigger mod coming Monday. Currently I have removed the first pin and trigger spring to lighten it. The bearing will take out the play it currently has. Overall I think it will come together quite nice.
Once I run a few more types of ammo through and see what groups the best I think I will want a scope on this to extend my reach since the power is there.
Some guys might wanna throw shade at the budget rifles, but really for a little more than 100 bucks....it looks decent. Feels good in hand, should put std. Weight 177 pellets right in the sweet spot for in flight stability in that 850-875 fps range. Not a lot to complain about.

Good information!!! Out of curiosity which model Williams peep sight did you use??? I've always wanted to try one on one of my Crosman rifles but have been confused on which one to buy.

Thanks!!!! I'll be purchasing a couple of those real soon.
No problem. The 1 thing you need to know during the install. On the platform underneath is a screw that holds the slide which engages the dovetail. Take it out, add blue loctite, and put it back into where you can move the slide by hand but it stays in place when you tilt it back and forth. Any play and when you tighten the screws to clamp to the dovetail and it will cock making your sight not sit flat.

I own a pair of this style rifle in .22... though marketed several years ago as Nitro Venom and Titan I would guess the basic internals are similar. My rifles perform well with Crosman ammo and the only upgrade I've performed are CDT - charliedatuna triggers on both, making them much more a pleasure to shoot. Good luck with your Vantage.

I have thr grtIII trigger in my outfitter .22, which is the spring version of this platform. I would definitely buy another if the payment options were more convenient. For now I am gonna test out the various mods with the original and see how that goes.

@Simplemann , I know you asked for groups at 25...what I have is 20 yards to work with. 8.3 gr. Superdomes. 5 shot group. Rifle has less than 150 rounds through it. I have made no attempt to polish the crown, and it still has a mostly stock trigger.

Bullseye is 5/8 in. The rifle is a bit hold sensitive, and the trigger could use some more improvement. This is seated offhand from my folding camping chair.

Longer adjustment screw trigger mod done. You absolutely can set it for a super clean short break. Mine is currently backed out for just a small bit of creep. I used a hex head screw which I was skeptical on during the install. The head size is taller so the trigger hits the screw head. I thought there may be a chance I would have it loaded and not be able to release the sear. Instead it works getting rid of some over travel shortening the pull after it fires.

I did reduce the diameter of the head before install, but not the height of it. Put a nice bevel on the thread end as well, so it is overall a bit shorter than shown here. Currently the 1st stage is just free, unsprung movement. Much of which will disappear when the bearing is installed. Should make for a very nice, clean single stage trigger, unless I can find some crafty way to add a spring to put slight tension on the slack portion of the movement.

If you are going to do this, be careful. You absolutely can push it too far if your screw is long enough to create a hair trigger, or 1 that doesn't catch during the cocking stroke. Start with it backed out more than you intend it to be once adjusted. Remember. ...I did not recommend, suggest or coerce you into doing this. Do not attempt this without understanding how everything you are changing works.

New scope is mounted up. Mil-dot cross hair is nice and crisp. Target clarity is quite good, just a hint out of focus at 5 yards. Followed all my usual steps in mounting, and fired 1 shot.

This says a lot about the scope and the rifle to me. The scope has been optically centered, and the dovetail is machined online with the barrel where no windage compensation adjustment is needed to bring it on center. Trajectory wise, it should hit the bullseye just by backing up to the 10 yard mark. As long as their claims of being shock proof hold out things are looking pretty great for $32
Flip up lens caps, well defined 1/4 moa clicks. No tool turret adjustment.

I didn't think you could get anything for $32 nowadays...;)
So far the new scope is holding well. The crosman mounting rings are gonna get replaced. Pushed out to 20 yards, zeroed in on the bullseye with just a few clicks to the right. I see the scope tape from the back ring slowly sneaking out from inside the ring after about 50 shots. New 1 PC utg mount should be here Wednesday. First spring style ag I have had that really wants to be held tight into the shoulder. The more you let it float during the recoil, the wider the groups get.
