I have a leupold scope that is a few years old with a varmint reticle. The holdover points work for various calibers. I was wondering if anyone worked out the holdovers for an airgun?
The holdover would be different for each gun, barrel. pellet, slug and velocity. So one would need to shoot each gun with the specific projectile at the specific speed to know.
Although some of the software available might give you a rough estimate if you know the speed and BC of your ammo.
The holdover/holdoff values will change depending on what magnification the scope is on if it's a SFP scope which was what my Leupy was. What a pain, and the reason I went to FFP 12 years ago, hint hint.
Get a ballistic app with SFP compensation, or map out the reticle the old hard way.
As Steve said, you’re going to have to pick your power setting on the scope and then map out the drop at various distances. This will help though, it gives you the values of each line. Can you tell I’ve got some time on my hands. On vacation and it’s blowing about 40mph today!
Not sure it’s worth using with the sfp issue. I used it on a 223 for parrie dogs but ended up just adjusting based on where the shot hit. Any consensus on whether in a hunting situation the holdover points are worth dealing with or is a straight crosshairs the way to go and just adjust on the game?
