This one was my first pesting trip of the year here in SoCal.
oh my! I found the best Duo for squirrels
Veteran long 25cal and NSA 29gr slugs, this slugs are the sh#¥! I didn't see one single zombie/runners like I always see using pellets, the expansion is brutal, I could find an exit wound on any of them, shots were from 43 yards to 153 yards. Yes this is my first kill a such long distance with an Airgun, the frickin StrelokPro was spot-on!
It was a perfect day, sunny, 74*, no wind just a tiny little breeze, almost nothing.
I wish I could record the shots but my phone- skope app on my Iphone is not working properly :/
but i took some pics for you guys
I got there around 7am and it was already some movement in the vicinity, I spot a few really close, but this time I wanted to take the big ones only, no juveniles were harm this time
btw 99% of the shots were heart/lung to see how the slugs performed, they didn’t disappoint!
While getting ready I saw 2 adults, one @43 yards and another one @ 77 yards
as you can see no exit wound, this guys didn’t twitch at all! The NSA slug hit them hard!
This one a 77 yards made a back flip
this was a great spot to sniping them, sun behind me, lying prone on a little hill, they didn’t know what hit them!
After shooting some targets i moved to a different area, a mile down the road to be precise.
this place its just beautiful, this the best time of the year to come here, I’m planing on coming back soon, if someone wants to join me let me know, plenty game for two!
This one @62 yards presented me a head shot, it was sticking its head out, the 29gr slug hit hard but I rushed the shot and hit it right between the eye and nose, I was lucky enough he gave me another opportunity to do it right and finish it off with a heart lung shot.
the slug came out on the other eye, the second shot didn’t pass through.
This one i shot it @94 yards, it was a Big guy!!!
while taking a lunch break under a tree I spot this two, they were really close (35yards) so I let them pass this time
it was so nice an relaxing that I wanted to take a little nap but I knew I had a commitment here
After a few minutes of walking I spot a few more but one presente me a nice clear shot so I took it.
@53 yards according to strelok no hold necessary, it was right! The 29gr NSA slug put the smack down on it was DRT, I could here the sound of the impact very clearly, like a loud PLUG!
I was laying between those two trees on top the pic
After walking a couple 100 yards I spot the one that we all hate “ the whistler” alerting all the community about my presence, I couldn’t let that happen, so i grabbed the nicest looking one, kiss the slug, load the Veteran, breathe calmly and gently pull the trigger, the Slug definitely quiet him down for good!
here you can see the sucker on top of a boulder/rock thinking I didn’t see him, wrong!
I was next to that tree on a seating position using my long legs bipod
after shooting some more I decided to come back to camp to do some long range target shooting using some clay pigeons and silhouettes I had, after some time of shooting I spot some movement far down where I was shooting at, i grabbed the binoculars and the range finder, Yep! Squirrel @153 yards, put the info on the Strelok App, i changed the magnification on my scope from 10X that I always used to 15X to have a bit of clarity (it was already 4:30 pm)
before I pulled the trigger I compensated one mil for windage just in case and hoping everything was correct I sent the slug, I could here the plug and following that the death dance dead dance.
Oh man I couldn’t believe it! When I was celebrating and telling myself YES, YES! I saw another one popping out of his hole, this one was a bit closer 133yards, I made the changes and sent the 29gr to hit its target and it did, this one didn’t flinch at all DRT! Wow what a day to finish it like that, I was so happy!!! BTW I was shooting from a table using a bipod and a Caldwell rear bag for better stability.
the squirrel@153 yards was all the way back on the shadow area on the pic
If you can zoom- in you can see my truck behind the trees
this is the second one I shot @133 yards
shooting point
I took both Veterans this time but I was so happy with the performance of the Big sister that i didn’t used the 22 shorty!
BTW my apologies in advance for any grammar mistakes, English is my third language
