N/A Veteran vs Newer Compacts

Hey everyone.... I've been out of the airgun scene for the past couple years and now getting back into it. I still have my Taipan Veteran .22 Compact that's been a great little gun. I'm contemplating getting another bullpup in .177 for lower powered shooting.

Seen a couple new offerings from some other brands that have caught my attention such as the Brocock Ghost, Brocock Ranger / Atomic / Pathfinder and, RAW Micro Hunter.

Wondering if anybody has any direct experience with a Veteran vs any of these other guns I listed. Just trying to figure out if I should try and find a used Veteran .177 compact to play with or explore some of these new offerings. The accuracy and trigger on the Veteran sets the bar pretty high, at least for me anyways.

Any thoughts or insight is appreciated!

I had that exact Taipan setup and it was near perfect IMHO. No problem with the rear lever. Only reason I let it go was wanted something more adjustable, tactical, and semi-auto. I looked at alot of the exact same rifle options, but went down the EDgun path. Only other you might consider is the Krait. If you can keep that Taipan, I would. Good luck!

I have no intentions of parting with my Vet shorty. Just looking to add to the stable.

Don't ignore the FX Dreamline Compact. It's been my most reliable compact platform for over 4 years now. Very light, compact, balanced, nimble, and feels good on the shoulder. Hard to say all those things about many of the Eastern-Europe bullpups, at least in my opinion. And in 22, it still delivers 30fpe, what I consider to be "full power" for a 22. Other compacts can fall quite short of this.

I do not have a Taipan or a Caiman but I own a Caiman X. It is unusually short for the barrel length because the action has a pivoting hammer. The Caiman is even shorter and lighter. 575mm long with a 400 mm barrel and weighs 245Kg. CZ barrel, Huma regulator. I shot a 200 on the 30 yard challenge with my 22 caliber Caiman X. It is accurate. It makes low 30s fpe on a 100 bar regulator setting.

Agreed, the Caiman and Caiman X are very good guns. Accurate and dependable. I've got a hand full !!

I'll look into it. I know I had been iffy about FX when I was gung-ho into airguns a few years ago after seeing alot of people with issues with I think the FX Impact. But I'm def gonna do some more research on as many guns as possible before I make any decisions.

Glad to see you back on here! Hard to beat those Vets for sure. I'll throw in though the Uragan Compact. They are great little guns.
Thanks Dairyboy!!! The Uragan had just come out when I was last actively in airguns. Looks like they've discontinued the current gen of Uragan and coming out with something new / updated?

Wasn't even aware of this brand. I'm going to look into them. Thanks for the response!

Talon Tunes still has the original in .177 and the newer Uragan 2. I don't think there is alot difference besides a 20moa rail and I believe a balanced valve. Regardless both great and worth a look. Of course looking for a .177 Taipan is an option also. But for a lower powered gun the Uragan Compact are hard to beat.
