Vevor Air Compressor

Hello everyone,

Well I am a bit surprised that I only received one reply to my question about Air Cooled Air Compressors and I thank Tom @tcarlson777 for his response. Anyway I did a lot of research on the internet and reading of reviews and in the process the Vevor Model 220/110/12Vdc caught my attention and I decided to buy one for myself as a backup unit. Now I can give my neighbor a first hand review of the unit and also let him use it. I choose this unit based on a number of factors but several main reasons are: 1) The overall reviews, 2) It has a built in power converter, 3) It has an automatic shut off gauge for any per-set pressure, 4) Quality of the machine itself, and 5) I was able to purchase it directly form the Vevor warehouse here in the USA.

I received it after in 5-days and as you can see in the photo it was very well packed. Unpacking and having first impressions it appears to be a very high quality and came with the parts as shown. The Owners Manual is straight forward and covers the operations of the unit well.

After reading and following all of the instructions in the Manual, I connected it to my FX Crown ( 480 bottle ) which had 120 bar in the cylinder and set the Auto Shutoff to 3000psi and turned the Fan on for 2-minutes and then started the Compressor. Fan not too noisy and the Compressor also not very noisy, less than I had expected. It took about 1-1/2 minutes until the Auto Shutoff engaged and turned the Compressor off and left the Fan to continue to run. They recommend to allow the Fan to continue to run an additional 5-minutes. Only one very brief run but I am pleased at this point, only time will tell if this is a good unit. I will do additional updates as I get more run time on the unit. The only negative so far is the Quick Disconnect on the fill hose is hard to remove from my Crown. But with that said, the Crown Foster fitting is kind of hard to get to in the wood stock.

Even though you have auto shutoff don't become dependent on it. Always closely monitor your fill procedure. Those auto shutoffs are known to be not that reliable. Safety first!
Hello Gerry52

Yes sir for sure. The owners manual even states to keep a close eye on it and do not leave the gun when being filled. I watch both the compressor and my rifle gauge when filling with my other compressor.

Thank you and have a great day,

It looks like a well made pump. Very similar to the GX. Don't forget to add an hour meter if it doesn't have one hiding under that tag, if you plan to do scheduled maintenance. The stick on vibration activated ones generally work well but be sure you get one that has sensitivity settings so it won't run when just the fans are working and that you can disable for when you are carrying the pump in a moving vehicle.

This one works well for me and you can disable it for transporting. It has a resettable "trip meter" that you can use as your maintenance reminder. The only negative on the one in the link is that once the battery is dead, you have to replace the entire timer as it is sealed in there, though the battery life running it less than an hour a day is quite long - I think the instructions said 6+ years if left turned on?

I like the auto shutoff feature and use it all the time, but with visual verification of course. I also like having it as a backup, setting it at the intended target pressure just in case there is some kind of an emergency-ish distraction. I have read that the auto stop on the Yong Heng usually breaks pretty quickly, but on my recently purchased GX CS3, now at 7 hours, it has worked perfectly.

I am curious to hear how long it takes the Vevor to go from 120 BAR to 250 BAR on a 550 bottle, to compare it with the GX. If you ever take the cover of, please post some photos of the inside, including the water trap, for comparison with the GX.

Hello Geezerhood

Thank you for this information. My Crown and the RAW both have 480 bottles so that will be the most that I can fill. I normally shoot down to 110 Bar and fill back up to either 210 or 225 Bar and I will time this and give the report back here. Had one heck of a storm come through here last night and most likely will not shoot today.

Thanks again and have a great day,
ThomasT

You are welcome! I wish I had bought a compressor with the built in 120v power supply.....but I will admit that the external power supply has come in handy several times already for other uses. It has some beefy output.
Hello again Geezerhood

Just ran the compressor a second time just to top off my Crown. Again from just above 100 Bar to just above 200 Bar and estimating the time to have been 2-1/2 minutes. The output air from the fans was still mild-cool, forgot to look at the Temp Gauge. The Pressure Gauge on the Vevor does read a bit different than on my Crown, it reads higher by a small amount. However my Yong Heng also reads different, so I will fill by the Rifle Gauge to be safe.

I did find the same Hour Meter and placed an order for it, thanks for that bit if information.

I got the same one. I like it even though the auto shut-off hasn't worked yet(I'm waiting on a new pressure gauge to show up). I'm filling up to 300 Bar usually. It takes about 7minutes I think? From 100-200 is quick and as the pressure goes over 200 it slows down.
Biggest plus for me was portability and the fact it can go AC or DC.

Hello @AmosBurton

Thank you for this information, glad to hear the unit is working well for you. So far my Auto Shut-off is working just fine, but as advised I stand there and watch the filling process just to be safe. I did notice that it does slow down as the pressure increases, but it is not a high rpm machine to start with. I have a bunch of folks coming over on the 19th for a Benchrest shooting event so it will get a really good work out.

Thanks again,
ThomasT

I have a question about auto shut off units in general. Everything I’ve read said never to switch off the compressor when it’s under load - you are supposed to first bleed out the air and then switch off the motor. Do the auto stop units have a shorter lifespan because they are switching off while under load? Or does that not really matter at all?

Hello @MrP

That is a good question, but I don't know.

I don’t see why it would be a problem to stop a compressor under pressure, as it is already at pressure. I wouldn’t start a compressor under load though.
Hello @Scotty1

I believe you just answered the question. It's not stopping under pressure but Starting under pressure. You get the Gold Star for the day 👨‍🎓
