Visiting NC

You're here for the peak of the leaf color. Other than that we don't have a lot to offer in the world of airguns. We do have decent moonshine...

You might check out Cherahola hwy and the parkway for looking at the leaves. There are a lot of excellent BBQ places around. Stay out of downtown Asheville. The politicians there really favor the homeless, so it's a bit out of control. Don't be surprised if you see pistols on a few people's hips. Open carry is legal here. That's one reason that everyone is so polite.

Luck,

J~

Yeah, we’ve seen some of the fall leaves already. It really is beautiful!

Haha, I’ve heard from one of our cousins, who used to be in law enforcement in the Asheville area, that the only reason to go to Asheville is to make money. And even then it’s questionable…

FL is pretty good on not restricting the right to bear arms as well, and I’m from the center of the state where it more rural. Definitely a lot of people who carry in my neck of the woods. And it does seem to make people more polite, lol.

Thanks for the info!

lots of shooters in that area, i was just there in Hickory at the air gun show last weekend . Very friendly people
Too bad, I didn’t get in until later on Sunday. Plus I’m not sure the wife or screaming baby would have liked a detour for a gun show ;) Well, my wife would have liked it… not the kiddo…

I’m visiting North Carolina this week, normally I’m in the great state or Florida. Is there anything airgun related I should check out while I’m here? I’m in Waynesville which is about 45 minutes west of Asheville.
Best BBQ in Waynesville is 'Haywood Smokehouse' on Elysinia Ave. Also checkout Frog Level Brewing, lots of nice beer and good food. Enjoy your time up there, it's a great time of the year to be there! Chip from Manatee County FL.

I’m thinking it might not be a reading issue but more of a reading comprehension issue. The first response to the OP made it clear that “we don't have a lot to offer in the world of airguns” in the area. The OP went on to mention that he is traveling with his wife and child which may have been what prompted the nice folks on this forum who are familiar with the area to suggest other activities… activities other than airgunning that might be of interest to a family. I know it sounds crazy but maybe that is what happened?

, I read the Title, OP's original post and the first 4 posts.. Not one thing about family... Fairly typical these days, here...

So, you didn't read all the posts, but are commenting on other people's reading?

Then you don't contribute to the conversation, but instead decide you are the ruler of what contributes to a helpful thread?

Thanks for shutting down a thread where of the 9 posts before you 3 were from the original poster who was not objecting.

All arguments aside, there's the Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum in Maggie Valley. If you like motor-bikes, it's worth the time. One of the most famous moonshiners was in Maggie Valley, too. Popcorn Sutton. You can probably find his grave (and pee on it). I met him a couple of times and he was a profane jerk, but he made good shine.

Cade's Cove is worth a visit if you like history.

The Biltmore House and Gardens near Asheville is worth a look as well. (I have an ancestor buried there.)

DollyWood is just across the border in Tennessee, and the whole Gatlinburg area has a lot to both entertain you and take your money.

Do please keep us posted on your visit. As a local, it would be nice to know how it went.

Luck,

J~

Thanks for all the input. It has been a really nice time so far! We have extended family on my wife side of the family up here so much of what we have been doing has been seeing the relatives and enjoying the outdoors. We’ve walked Lake Junaluska, taken the boys down to a little creek at the end of the ski ramp (oh wait, I think they call those drive ways up here, haha!) Then today we went to see some of the cousins live stock and have some fun hiking on their property. We were going to go out to Sunburst but heard that the roads were closed until the end of the week. We’ll see how that goes. We’re working around naps and a lot of pent up energy so we aren’t doing a whole lot of attraction type things.

As for some of the other comments, my original question was specific to airguns, but I have no problem with other input. It’s good to get input because I’m sure this won’t be the last time we’re up here. And yes, I do have a family (1 wife and 3 toe headed full throttle boys) that I love and love spending time with. To be honest, that’s the main reason I don’t do more airgun stuff, I’m too busy enjoying them!

Thanks for the update.

That sounds like a wonderful time. Sunburst is amazing. (Pic attached.) I was there a couple of weeks ago. There's a waterfall right off of 276 (below the parkway) above Brevard that you might want to visit. Access is easy and it shouldn't be crowded. The Cradle of Forestry is below that and it's also worth looking into.

Stay safe,

J~

I was in downtown Asheville a couple of weeks back. Went there for breakfast, after watching the sunrise on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The only person that offended me was the restaurant worker who told me I’d have to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes to get a table. There were a bunch of seedy looking folks milling around on the sidewalk, waiting for a table. Must be the restaurant where all the homeless people go to eat. I’m just surprised they can afford to eat there. I thought it was a bit pricy.
