Vixen 22 long FPS

For those of you who have or had the Vixen long what FPS in 22 were you shooting? I am shooting 860 with JSB 18's right now and it is kind of loud....A few questions for you. folks...How do you pull the barrel so I can polish it and is there a way to quiet it down? I saw a thread on Donny adaptor, but haven't seen any photos or info on how it worked.

Thanks

I get 900 fps average with the same pellets you are using. Hammer spring tension rod has holes in it and is located behind the pistol grip. Use a small allen wrench or similar to turn it through it's holes. CW is more spring pressure, CCW is less. Unscrew the barrel shroud. The barrel set screw is the allen screw you can access through the hole in the top of your pic rail in front. Remove it completely so you can see the detent in the barrel when re-installing the barrel. No idea about any adapters for the barrel.

My intent was to use my Vixen Standard (long) for a walk & stalk ground squirrel hunter. So I left it tuned for lighter 15.89 grain pellets, and I am shooting domes @ 898 and Hades @ 891 fps. I don't consider it to be loud at all shooting these pellets. In fact it is pretty quiet in my view.

A cheap pin spanner wrench is all that is needed to loosen the end cap and remove it and the shroud. Mine came from Amazon

I don't see the DFL adapter on his site, but the photo below should show you how it would mount.

So I put the vixen over a chrono today and it was shooting mid 870’s….I lowered the speed down to a 856-851 shot string, the average was 854….and it was much quieter….more a mechanical noise now…..

Started sighting it in at 50 yards in a pretty good swirling Wind. Bipod up front and a squeeze bag in back. After dialing the scope in I ended up with this target….First 3 shots on top of each other, 4th shot low and to the right. Not sure if it was me or the wind, so I shot 3 more in the center…

scope is the Helos 2x12x42….Not a target scope at all, but a great hunting scope…..Next outing will be off bucket and sticks like I hunt and see if the plastic rail is strong enough not to flex, so it doesn’t hit the shroud and change the POI…

Is the barrel in...THAT...bad a shape that you feel the need to...polish it, right outta the box ?
Or...is this just a mostly useless personal desire that's gonna give back 100%, 10 ring bulls eyes at 1000fps ?

I've sorta thought about getting one, but the immediate need to polish the barrel will probably stop me from getting one.

Mike
man you sure always got something negative to say 1000fps like the vixen gonna do that, lotta posts you are all negative, mad scientist or something, polishing barrels is a choice most people do for cleaning and if it helps with accuracy i don think you would like it anyways

Gerry need to get it back out to the quiet wineries and have somebody else who is not shooting it let me know how loud it is.....Very light and easy to carry and shoots offhand nicely....I don't like the flat area on the upper picatinny rail because it make a one piece mount hard to use......I will either go to a set of rings or get the super small weaver one piece mount for it. So far I really like it and just shooting under 29 foot pounds I feel comfortable shooting it at the wineries....

Tony,
Looks like you got that thing shooting great. I haven't had a chance to shoot my new Vixen but hope its as accurate as the one I posted on the classifieds. Mine is shooting 8gr JSB around 940fps and getting similar results at 50 yrds no wind. I wonder if it would do a bit better if I slowed it down a touch??? I am amazed at how accurate these things are getting " airguns" now a days! A great time to be an Airgunner!!!

Ok, just broke out the new Vixen 177. Haven't cleaned the barrel yet. Everything on stock setting, first time I've pulled the trigger on this one. Sighted in with the jsb 8gr and did ok but a bit windy here. Decided to try the 10gr Zan slugs. First shot is the lower left for an aim point. Next 5 can cover with a dime. This was at 50yrds with a bit of wind!!! Maybe I won't be cleaning that barrel after all!!! :)

You're funny.

Not at all...negative. Just questioning the "need" for doing things that are...not likely needed !
Unless...as I stated, the barrel surface is, that...bad, from the factory !
HOW...is that negative ? JUST...a question !

99% of the reason I polish my barrels is it’s a good deep clean and makes them easier to clean. I have yet to get a perfect barrel, some have shot better but none have shot worse after a light polish, I use about 50 strokes of flitz.
