Vulcan .25 ... scope/mounts advice

Getting ready to pull the trigger on a Vulcan .25 caliber bullpup. Will be target shooting/pesting beyond 50 yards to maybe 75-80 yards.

Looking for at least 18x to possibly 24x magnification. I'd like to try an illuminated reticle, never had one or even looked through one. I want mil dots. My 52-year-old eyes don't really like 1/2 mil dots. It all seems to blur together.

As far as mounts, I have no experience with picatinny rails and I'm not sure which height would be best on the Vulcan.

Any and all advice much appreciated.

Matt

Personally I like the Hawke scopes, I have three of them but I have an Aeon 6-24x50 on my Vulcan .25. I also have the high mounts and am really happy with how it shoulders and the placement of the scope to my eye. I had medium mounts and they were just too low for my eye level. I notice you have a Marauder in your pic, as a comparison I have the high mounts on my Marauder as well since I have a 52mm Hawke Objective scope on that rifle. The difference between the Vulcan and the Marauder is that the cheek weld on the Vulcan is at the breech level and you (I) need extra height on the ocular lens to get proper eye alignment. Hope this helps?

As far as recommended scopes I would probably put the Hawke tactical 8.5-25x42 on this gun if I didn't have it mounted on my FX streamline right now. Sweet scope and keep in mind it is 20x half mil-dot but you can focus the eye piece to accommodate a lot of different eye relief. I too have eyes over 55 years of age so I can relate to your issue, but I see those little "bow ties" with crisp clear clarity on this scope. It is illuminated to boot, where the Aeon is not. Hope this all helps with your research. Congrats and best of luck with your search! Enjoy the vulcan it is a sweet gun.

i'm with fungun.
I have several hawke and they are all mounted on my "performance" rifles. The Sidewinder 30mm 6.5-20x44 (hawke pn #17110) is the hot lash up. I use the UTG QD high mounts (RQ2W3224) where i have picatinny mounts.

Matter of fact, i have a brand new #17110 never been on a gun with a set of new rings. PM me if you are interested. I'd make you a sweet deal on them.

And I don't want to hear about anyone's "old tired eyes"
I've got you both beat by quite a few years. LOL
Guess that's why I use the Hawke scopes.....

Nice choice!

I have the Vulcan Tactic in .25 and I'm using UTG PRO POI rings in medium height. I wouldn't recommend trying anything less than that height at least on the Tactic. It's close to not being high enough to get the mags in and out properly.

I did have a Hawke scope on it but decided to replace that with an SWFA 3x15 and am happy with the change. The SWFA doesn't have an illuminated reticle but I'm not really missing it to be honest. The SWFA is a lighter scope and IMO, it makes for a better balanced package than with the Hawke.
