N/A Vulcan 3 hp .30 or….

Hi everyone! We’re not sure what direction to go in and could use some advice. We currently have an M3 .22 sniper and we’re looking to add a .30 to the collection for hunting coyotes and raccoons. Do we repurpose/upgrade/refresh the m3 to a .30 slugger or buy a Vulcan 3 hp .30? What would you do considering the parts alone to upgrade the m3 will cost about $900 vs a purpose built .30 slugger from the factory? This is the parts list:
1. .30 700mm tensioned slug barrel kit
2. oem shroud with 3d printed end cap to fit over the tensioner
3. Orion mags
4. high pressure Huma reg
5. Huma or maybe tungsten hammer
6. oring rebuild kit
7. mubhaur’s front plenum part that fixes oring stiction….all said and done parts cost ~$900 on top of the $2K+ price tag.

We recently acquired an AGT Uragan 2 .25 carbon and I’m blown away by its ruggedness, dependability, simplicity and accuracy. It’s as accurate as the m3 .22 sniper out to 120 yards (testing out to 175 yards soon) and there is NO NEED for aftermarket parts. Heck it doesn’t even require a moderator shooting at 75 fpe! A Mod40 had no effect on quieting it down whatsoever.

I would love to hear from you guys that have owned one or the other, or both! What direction would you go in and why? I truly appreciate all advice and/or input!

I’m leaning towards another gun. But if we kept the high power mods in the m3 it would be a dedicated slug gun in .22 (34gr) or .30 (+60gr).

There’s not a whole lot of reviews on the Vulcan 3 HP and I’m looking forward to hearing from current/past owners. Questions I have:
1. How loud is the ping while taking a shot? The U2 has a slight ping compared to the m3 and from what I’m reading, the V3 ping is far worse than the U2.
2. What ammo/weight/speed are you guys shooting accurately out to 100 yards and beyond?

In same situation at end of 2022, FX MK3 Wildcat .30 Sniper (tube style) had pushed nuisance crows out past 100 yards but lacked the juice to handle them out there. Didn't crunch the numbers but can't imagine cost to re-do Wildcat to long distance slug gun wouldn't have been too far off the $1200 I paid for a Vulcan 3 .30 (700mm) slugger. Figured re-cooping upgrade expense to an older platform is much tougher than selling another gun outright, if I ever needed the money. WM

I love my Vulcan 3 rifles.

Superb rifles. I own .177, .25 and .30

If you do not have a Sidewinder, those are "Really different".

For hunting purposes Sidewinders will always show their advantage. I will tell you just five of many:
1.- the rifle is always ready to shot. You do not need any cocking.
2.- you are always ready to make a following shot.
3.- adjusting power is a matter of dime in or dime out.
4.- Accuracy is guaranteed.
5.- ergonomics have no competition.

The Vulcans now come with depingers from the factory. I have a newer compact Vulcan 3 in .30 and there is no noticeable ping. I used to own a v3 700 mm .30. Traded for an M2 went back to the Vulcan platform for simplicity. I do know the Vulcan in 30 shoots 44 gr pellets very well. Cannot attest to slugs. I can say when I received my 700 mm gun the person that originally had it set it up as a Vulcan HP. It was way over 100 fpe. There are videos online of them doing very well with slugs. Look on YouTube for myairgunrange. He has some long range vids of the v3 shooting slugs.
