So the Summer blow-torch let off a little and I Finally took the V-3 to a 60 y. range I set up in a sheltered outdoor setting. Cal .22, Reg. is set at 140 Bar and I use a hammer spring tension of # of Turns Inward from flush with back of receiver with threaded plug hitting stock. I consider 4 1/2 Turns Inward as the “Max” compressio. ( Anybody know if this range is considered Correct”??)
I determined that at 4.5 turns in and with 23g H&N .218 was making about 1050-1058 fps. I tried a range of velocities from there down to about 900. Unfortunately nothing really “Gelled“ as being a sweet spot. All shots were in the Black of those 22 LR small bore 50 Ft. targets for competition Iron Aperture sights, so prob. 1.5”?.
switched to .217 Zan 23g and all of a sudden little 1/4“ groups. This is at the 970-ish speed. I’m thinking Great, Got Ya’…but NO. Reloaded mag and now back to previous in- Black peppering.
Something that was curious was velocity consistency too. Would be cooking along in a V groove and then get a 20+ fps spike in speed on a shot in middle of string, then back to normal. (Using FX Barrel Chrony) Hmmm. I set reg with a tester and was spot-on 140 B for multiple little charge cycles inside tester.
i would really love to have something more repeatable / incremental that that Allen screw-cap as the hammer spring compression adjustment but this is the way it is.
Any Vulcan gurus who want to add advice, observation, comments Bring it On! Eager to hear.
BTW: Amazed with 125 Regulated Shot count from 295 Bar down to 150 Bar.
