Vulcan Gen 4 Tactical - Newbie Needs Help

Hi there.... fairly new to the hobby and have gone a little keyboard happy buying guns and not really knowing what I am doing. I can shoot them no problem, and on my impact all the adjustments are knobs that I can play with, so I have been playing with HS adjustment and valve adjustment to see what it does.. nothing crazy, just those two thing.. no regulator or trigger stuff.

So then I buy this Vulcan Tactical and its awesome. But I want to see what adjusting the hammer spring will do to this one. The problem is I have NO idea how to do that. Is there anyone on here that can do a little gun-splaining to me about the basics. I watched Ernest Rowe's videos and they are all about tearing it apart and playing with trigger settings etc.. but way way over my head and nothing I want to attempt at this point. I suspect I need to take the stock off and its at the back, but just wondering before I start into it.

Thanks in advance. (Yes, I know... should have started with a marauder or something, but what fun is that)

PS - I have a Taipan Mutant coming that has the spring tension on the back.. there is a knob that the guy that owned it added to make it easy and not have to use those pins. Is there anything like that for the Vulcan?

I too have a Vulcan and Taipan. You’re absolutely right. The Vulcan is awesome. And you will love the taipan too.

Thousand and thousands of rounds over a couple of years and over 200 prairie dog smack downs in less than a week.

So why mess with it?

That’s the first rule of basics.

The best thing you can do for it, is to shoot it.

The Taipan ? Same way.

Just shoot it.

These guns come out of the box as good as you will need.

Yes there is a tool made to adjust the hammer spring.

the trade off will be increasing the hammer spring will result in fewer shots. Then you will want to go in and turn screws on the regulator to get your shot count back up, opening up another can of worms.

I’m not trying to tell you you’re incapable, I am just trying to help you in the long run enjoy the shooting experience and not have gun parts scattered across your work table while you spend hours and hours searching the internet trying to figure out how to get back to where you were in the beginning then having to send it (them) off to have them put back together. That’s called “paying for your mistakes”.

as for the marauder? You don’t need to mess them them either. I have them as well...

you want something you have to work on? Buy a Kral or Gauntlet.

This IS the voice of experience BTW.......

Ha.. thanks man. I agree.. if I bought a gun new and it was stock from factory, I wouldn't screw with it.. these guys were bought second hand and someone has already played in there. I actually think its running a little on the fast side (the vulcan) and am going to chrono to see this weekend, but my gut tells me its been pumped up for bigger pellets than i am using... thats the only reason I would play with it.

On all of these guns I will likely never touch the reg unless I am replacing it with a huma, but hammer spring shouldn't be too much of an issue. The impact is nice as I got it and it was set to max.. holy crap thats a lot of gun for the backyard... so I tried min hammer spring and it is still accurate as hell and feels much more manageable sound and recoil wise.

My recommendation is to chrony your vulcan first. If you are shooting the 25.3gr then I would shoot for some where around 860fps to 910fps. Remember to adjust the HS with the breech bolt all the forward and the gun not cocked. I would recommend only making 1/4 turns between testing for new speeds. There is my 2 cents on the subject. Enjoy all your new toys.

EDIT- I JUST REALIZED YOU NEVER MENTIONED THE CALIBER. MY COMMENTS ARE BASED ON .25.

2nd EDIT- I went back and reviewed my notes from back when I got my Vulcan new a few years ago. It is a .25 and I shoot JSB 25.3 and AA 25.3gr pellets. I also wash and weigh/sort. I have found that the CZ barrel likes the 25.5gr of pellets typically right around 940fps avg. My Std. deviation at this speed is around 2.0 or less. In other words, most of the shots are very close to the same speed, thus producing more consistent POI groups. OK, i'm done, hope this helps.

To adjust the hammer spring on the vulcan all you need 2 allen wrenches.

Put one in each hole of the adjuster will yhe L shaped part at the top and just spin they will lock together to allow you to adjust it

I assume you have to take the stock off.. I guess that was really my question. Did some further research and it appeared that way.
