Walther reign. 25cal accuracy

Sadly, no idea -- been following the Walthers (Rotek and Reign) without pressing the button because they are perceived not to be tunable. Restricted porting etc -- not sure if that's accurate?

Anyhow, one would expect stellar accuracy out of the Lothar Walther barrels they reputably come with. Have you checked your barrel-silencer alignment to see if some of the pellets might be clipping? Pellets are not uniform, so a slight deviation in the odd one may be hitting a narrow (or slightly out of center) silencer baffle. The tell tale sign is usually a streak inside the silencer end cap. 🐦

I have one in .22 Cal and have the same problem. Groups between 3/4 inch and 2 inch at around 20 yards. I tried different pellets. Best results i had with the JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy. But still unacceptable poor accuracy, thats why i brought it back to my dealer. I‘m still waiting for a feedback regarding my issues. Do you have a chrony? On mine the velocity spread was rather high. I guess thats the problem.

As soon as I get a top off on my tank. I will check velocity. Still have some different pellets to try. I think a reg would help it out. I'm well within my 60 day return at PA. I will check my mod to see if there is clipping. The feel and balance is awesome. Hope to get some better grouos out of it. What would be a good hold off a bench for a bullpup?

For pellets in .25, the regular JSB Kings (1.645 grams) should be staple. The King Heavies often -- but not always. In .22, the regular JSB Jumbos, or their "heavy" version, or more rarely the lighter RS version, should be a staple diet even for pellet fussy barrels. Some higher FPE guns swear by the H&N Baracuda Match (harder lead alloy). Many less fussy ones lap up the Crossman premiers. I would be hesitant to keep a barrel that spurns all of the above for accurate shooting. Especially below 50yds because groups then disperse much less than at longer distances.

For accurate bullpup shooting, I usually slap on a scope level. Couple bucks from Aliexpress. This helps counter POI shift due to inevitable differences in hold between shots. Especially for bullpups, because their scope is typically mounted higher -- further from the barrel.

I often rest them against a tree when hunting. For benchrest, if you lack a bipod or shooting bags, use a folded pillow or jacket on a table. Keep us posted! 🐦

Bullpups harder to shoot...now...that's funny.

I bought my first "real" bullpup'" (Steyr AUG) back in the mid 1980's. Prior to that, I had a couple of more normal sized rifles. I had NO problem going from a full sized HK 91 (.308 cal) to my little AUG (.223 cal.) and back, in the same morning. A heavy kicking, long gun, to a very light kick, short gun, and still hit what I was aiming at..! So...what's the difficulty ? It's ONLY...in ones head. If you don't think about each gun and its differences, and "let yourself adapt". While sure, they are different, after the first or second shot, it SHOULD be of no consequence.

So, back to the Reign. I have the .22 version. I also cut the barrel down to bring the Reign into the realm of a more proper length Bullpup, in my garage. Granted, I do have a short "range", about 18 yrds. (about a foot short), but my hacked up Reign, offhand shooting can produce 1-1/2" groups easy enough. 2" if I'm just shooting in general, but less if I concentrate on what I'm doing. Before I cut the barrel, my accuracy was about the same, no notable change after the cut-off wheel. I don't use calipers to check the spread, I'm almost 70yrs old, and am "way" past (that stopped at about 20yrs old) trying to impress anyone but myself. I just enjoy the shooting and keeping the holes in the targets as small as possible. I'm shooting both JSB 18.13 gr, and JSB 29.39gr. pellets. Just a tiny difference in point of impact.

I like the Walther Reign, feels comfortable at the shoulder, if a little front heavy. I swapped the cocking lever to the left side to make my right handed shooting more comfortable. I shot it yesterday after putting a different sight (red dot) on it. It took a few shots (about a 4" group!) to bring it back to where it should be shooting. I like the smaller "pistol" sight I just put on it better than the larger than the more rifle sized sight.

Anyway, yes, you should be able to shoot 1-1/2" groups at 20 or 30 yrds easy enough. Especially off a rest if you are using one.

Does anyone know whether the Walthers (Rotek and Reign) can be tuned like other PCPs ?

- accessible valve spring and valve stem?

- restrictions in terms of installing an in-line reg? Ability to separarate the air compartment from the valve block/breech?

- accessible transfer ports / restrictions in terms of opening them up?

- accessible hammer and hammer spring?

There are surprisingly few modding blogs/forum threads about these items ... Admiring of German engineering, yet leery of German (over)engineering and anti-tamper devices !

Thanks! 🐦

Barrels are Carl Walther "Walther" barrels. They make their own for both the airguns and firearms. The hammer spring isn't adjustable. And the valve is different. Doesn't use a standard transfer port but it can be opened up. A heavier spring and some porting and it's a 60fpe gun in 25. Small shot bottle so better suited at the 45fpe range.

👍 Do you know if the Reign bottle has the standard m18*1.5 thread and can be unscrewed ?

I wouldn't mind getting one to experiment with a paintball reg, like I did with my .25 Kral Jumbo.

Eliminated the ping + the adapter created a great plenum enabling a 120 bar set point. Reg-adapter combo at 30 smackers is cheap as chips as well ... Refined shooter, you would be proud of it! 🐦

so far the best groups are from JSB 25 gr. Did try nsa 32gr . They shot decent. The nsa were 1.75" at 30 but a nice clover leaf group. At least no fliers. Gto's were ok. H&n greens were all over. Will try some different ones later on. I will report on them as soon as I can.

Thanks for the advice!

Brian

Great! As you seem to be into slugs, have you tried the H&N Grizzlies? They are low cost and shoot fine out of my 55j Hatsan Flash Pup (.25). They are lighter than the JSB Knock-out slugs that may therefore require higher power. 🐦
