Evening everyone,

it’s been a very rough few weeks so I haven’t been doing much shooting but it’s getting to be time to work back to normal. I mentioned elsewhere on this site that I’m interested in a bull pup and got some good recommendations. I’ve also developed an interest in a 10 meter competition pistol. I don’t know why but there it is. Since I’m not shooting competitively yet in pistol I’d like to find something decent but reasonably priced. Caliber .177 but beyond that I have no preference. Right handed for me. If I like it I’ll learn more and upgrade but for now, moderate price will be important. An RC club member is married to an Olympic class shooter. I’ve not been able to learn much as I don’t see them often. Recommendations are appreciated as always. Thanks.

Air Venturi is probably your best bet for a new "reasonably priced" competition level pistol. Some other alternatives to see if you like that style of shooting would be the Daisy 7xx series of pistols & IZH46 if you can find one used. they will unfortunately be close to the Air Venturi in price though.

At the end of the day, ANY pistol shot 1 handed at 10m will give you a taste of what its like & a decent indication if its something you will enjoy. Spending more will just buy you better potential accuracy. As always, its the nut behind the trigger that really matters.

Hello @RickH

This is NOT in the same class as a Olympic Class pistol, BUT, it is not expensive. Shooting it will give you plenty of experience for offhand shooting and the modified pistol can be sold to recover a part of your investment. Most likely you will wound up keeping it for fun plinking and pest shooting.

This is a stock Diana Bandit PP-800R with the wood stock removed and a Buck Rail AR Style of grip installed. This is a regulated pistol and is pretty dog-gone accurate out to 10-meters. Shorten the Hammer Spring and you can get over 30 shots per fill at around 500fps.

Just food for thought.

maybe post up a few of your paper targets @ 10 meters , would be a good sales point ? Fun pistol BTW

"Reasonably priced".. a classic ..lol

What does it mean? Like me a buck of 2 or like some fat cat pcp guy $2000? ..lol.
When I got interested in 10m rifle, having no idea what I was getting in to, I spent about $350 on a 2078A. Learned a lot over a season and very quickly realized that there are quite a few serious competitors who spent way more than I did and worked hard. I found a used Anschutz and still paid triple the price of my first gun but had a much better idea of what I wanted and needed. I want to get a good pistol that I can learn with and if I enjoy it I’ll spend the money needed to buy a better competitive gun. I want to avoid buying high end only to find I don’t enjoy it or don’t do it very well. I’m seeing a lot of good recommendations here and I appreciate it.

Yes, I know I'm the party crasher... 😂
But purchasing a used high-end match pistol is probably the soundest choice. The brand, be it Steyr, FWB, Walther, Pardini or Morini, is not crucial. The key is that if you're passionate about 10m air pistol shooting, you'll have a quality pistol to develop your skills with. Moreover, if you later decide that it's not what you were looking for, or you're curious about a different brand, you can resell it for approximately the same price you paid. It's a dull answer, but from both an economic and technical standpoint, it's the most sensible approach. 🙂👍

Just get a 717, maybe better prices after the holidays. If it were me I would just buy this item number on Ebay: 226468818055 Buy the O-ring and wiper kit and replace them, very easy, even a 70 yr old near-sighted Noob did it with little problem on a couple of that design in the last week. @marflow 777 can probably lend some assistance if needed.

Or get item #: 226463769299 You can get the safety for 3.49 plus shipping. Probably needs a reseal, but puts you in one for not a lot of money.

i have 8, 7-7 pistols and have rebuild most of them
are they easy yes, until they are not and that is the problem
there is an old post of a very skilled smith that could not get the 717 i believe to seal and had to buy a complete valve which comes with the barrel and those parts are long gone
i had one that would not seal and after chasing my tail valve apart and all that it still leaked and that is when a started use the bowl of water to find the bubbles, tube Oring would not seal bought to different sizes they would not fit, put one round of Teflon tape around the valve before the Oring and it stopped leaking
so i will always tell you it is an easy fix, until it isn't and then don't do what i did and chase your tail go find a large bowl and fill with water and look for bubbles

I have a Morini 162 and yes my IZH46 will shoot just as wonderfully , single hole , and i mean single hole as in just very slightly oval . Not like some people say single hole just cause the holes arr touching but the size of a dime overall . I am just starting to shoot a Daisy 777 and my impression is the same single hole shooting once i get to know this gun .
Conclusion is Morini @ $ 2600 .00 and IZH 46 @ $500 and now maybe Daisy @ $125 at a airgun show .

This is my group of 9m basement shooters. Top 2 are 1986 Daisy 777s with a late model AV 46 M at the bottom. Hard to beat the Daisy's in terms of fun, accuracy and price point. If I win the lottery I'll get a Steyr Evo 10 or comparable.

That AV looks like it is sporting Rink grips. I did that with mine as those original red/black grips were tending to delaminate/split in a couple of places. I also have Daisy 777's actually a trio, and some 747's.
