WAR Flex 30 vs ?????

I have been reading up on some new rifles that been coming out such as the "Flex" by Wicked Air Rifles and the "Slayer" by American Air Arms and of course FX's Impact and they are starting to look promising from what numbers they are slowly leaking out there. Now in this I am just comparing the Flex and Bobcat 30 cal for obvious reasons Slayer 30cal and Impact have not been released yet.

Flex 30 by Wicked Air Rifles numbers are pulled from ( http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=94941.msg892541#msg892541 )

FLEX non-reg - 27 shots
FPE/cuin 1.37
Bar-cc/FPE 12
avg PSI used per shot 26
FPE per shot avg 80.5
FPS avg 900

Bobcat 30 by FX the numbers where pulled from ( http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/thread/1406175209 )

bobcat 248-180 bar - 27 shots
FPE/cuin 1.03
Bar-cc/FPE 15.8
avg PSI used per shot 37
FPE per shot avg 74.7
FPS avg 867

From the numbers above which were calculated using this calculator ( http://www.calc.sikes.us ) the 30 cal FLEX is more efficient than that of the Fx Bobcat with air consumption. If I plugged the numbers right I am really impressed with the out come considering the FLEX is using a 17" barrel compared with the 23-24" barrel of the bobcat. Longer barrels are not so much needed for accuracy but it does assist in getting the most efficient use of your air when it comes to FPS.... and as the numbers show the FLEX with the shorter barrel is getting more of everything.

We all now that the FX Bobcat and it brother Boss shot rather well as you can look at the "Extreme BenchRest" ( http://www.extremebenchrest.com) results from the past few years so it this is no diss on FX in no way they are shooters but, there are some new rifles out there with some possible great potential.

The only thing keeping me from ordering the Flex is the AR stock. Not a big fan of AR furniture, but the performance is awesome. I know Jim and Travis worked very hard to develop the Flex. Will be interesting to see how the .30 Slayer performs when it is released. After reading about the .357 Slayer, I would assume the .30 will be equally awesome.

I have shot both the FLEX and the Slayer quite a bit and now work for American Air Arms. The FLEX is a pellet shooter and is very tunable gun with a lot of thought put into ergonomics and function.Travis and Jim both worked hard on this gun and I'm really happy for them in creating such a fine rifle. The Slayer line of rifles and bullpups are very versatile, lightweight and powerful in design. The .357 Slayer will be avail 10/01/15 with the rest of the line available in December.Custom camo versions will be available as well. These guns are very well built with titanium tubes, match triggers, fully shrouded and tensioned Tj barrels along with a very quiet report. For you long range guys a .257 will be available as well.Tom Costan has spent over a year in design and around 8 months in testing of the prototypes. These guns have been through the mill and will be hot sellers.I have yet to meet someone who doesn't have the biggest smile after shooting one.haha

Interesting comparison between the FLEX and the Bobcat and is somewhat surprising but not completely.

First, I've shot an early FLEX and it is an impressive gun. During that experience I met both Travis and Jim, they are great guys and build great stuff. Travis is a fantastic tuner, he keeps records like an accountant and nothing is left to chance or recited from memory. I'm not at all surprised the efficiency of the FLEX is an excellent 1.37 fpe/cu.

I'm assuming the Bobcat is regulated. Regulated systems are alway going to be less efficient do to the low operating pressure (setpoint). This is especially true with low setpoints and high power. The lower efficiency is the price paid for the extremely tight ES. The 30 is the maximum caliber that makes sense to regulate in a conventionally designed airgun.

The Slayer 30 regulated pellet gun is designed with a set point of 1850 psi to deliver a 44 gn JSB at 880 fps with a 18" barrel. The goal is to achieve the lowest possible ES at the optimum FPS for the JSB pellet for maximum accuracy. Slightly more shots are possible with a lower setpoint and more power is available at a higher FPS but one or both will affect the ultimate accuracy.

As the OP noted it is surprising that the Bobcat's longer barrel doesn't offset more losses associated with regulation. I would assume with some careful tuning the efficiency of the Bobcat can be improved.

I'll have a FLEX .30 in for field testing pretty soon so I'll let you know what it looks like

as for the AmericanAirArms ? ....it's built like a tank, I shot just about all the High End guns out there and this gun is built just as well if not better, all features are well designed and even better executed and the company waited for the gun to be really tested in the field by independent testers for feedback so that when it's in production there's no surprises, something that most big time companies just plain forget to do and than initial production might well have issues to be corrected.

The both likely will sell well.
Personally I would like to see groups from both, 50 and 100 yard w/pellet used Likely missed some posts but have never seen any groups posted and esp. the WAR seems lacking on information, not too unusual for a not released rifle but with the level of hype released why not post groups. While it must work well the idea of a barrel held in place with a c-clip(e-clip?) and shroud tension ( no screws?) sound odd-which is fine- and not entirely ridged.
Step up the hype please! Groups on paper with range and pellet info (ammo info) DOES sell to some hunters and naturally to target shooter, just as efficiency seems a concern of th OP.

Thanks,
John

"spysir"Thinking my memory is fading,
Manny did you post a target picture of the Slayer somewhere? If so could you either post it here (w/ammo & range) or link us to it. And maybe I'm thinking of a different rig?

But please anyone, everyone targets please from any of these new rifles, Rifle, fps, ammo, range.

Thanks,

John
