Was blessed to shoot a Thomas today :)

Pictures worked on the preview; I'll try again.

As as you can see top shelf everything. 2 oz trigger, it's a tack driver. It reminded me of my job as a valet parker in college. Driving cars I could never afford, except I was never a car guy so this was much better.

The guy that owns it made the leap from rimfire benchrest. Real nice guy and a great addition to our club.

Both rests are remarkable; the one in the top picture feels like a precision instrument. It is shockingly fast to put on target, the one I'm using in the picture is the only time I used a joystick rest, simply amazing.

I'm not sure what else to say. It's art meets engineering, and preformed flawlessly.

I have no idea how many places sell this gun, but it was bought at Precision.

My club makes an annual trip to Precision. It's a hoot, lots of things to shoot and shoot at including a running boar. Jim and Nancy (I hope I have her name right) are gracious hosts, and it's a great time.

I don't know how much it costs, but everything is top shelf.

I'm really grateful to have such a great club just a few miles from my home.

I have posted under the Competition and Events page of this forum how the scores of the RAW's and Thomas's have pan out the last several months. Just look under Phoenix Airgun Club 25m match results.

Zebra about your question the USARB does not allow electronic triggers except in the USA Ulimited class.

Not sure the cost or where to find the benchrest equipment
They're expensive but not more than other precision BR and field target air guns. Looks like this one is top of the line as it was used by the American and world BR champions.

Are they allowed electric triggers in BR competitions?

Electric triggers are not allowed in US and World BR. They are allowed in world and US FT.

First off -I'm blessed to be able to shoot a Thomas rifle every day. Also some of the finest shooting equipment made -Ranolph rest and soon a SEB joystick controlled rest -I'm currently on a one year wait --
but I would suggest a dollar to dollar comparison of the RAW to the Thomas -
'the Thomas Has the ability to shoot in all three disciplines with the simple exchange of a jet screw and hammer spring adjustment -
that's three guns in one! _ better value up front --
also the Thomas was pupose built for the BenchRest game - didn't need a modification to bring it up to Thomas standards -

Thanks.

Looking at the joystick controlled rest made me think about electric triggers. The rest is obviously designed to minimize the movement caused by the shooters hold. If the rules allowed, I assumed that at least some shooters would use remote triggers to fire without touching the rifle at all (like you see photographers use for their cameras). It makes sense that they aren't allowed in the main event.

I'd like to have a go at BR. I couldn't find any events or groups near where I live in Westchester NY though...

Thomas rifle is a cross of a Air Arms EV2 and a USFT MAC 1. So much for a original design or (regurgitated rifle). So says the maker Mike Niksch. From the GTA forum from July 2013.

My Field Target Project« on: July 25, 2013, 03:37:50 PM »

I have always loved the look of the Air Arms EV2 Mk(any), and finally got going on my own project that will try to retain the EV's good looks and implement some other features and ideas that I like.

I have finished the 250cc air tube, the valve block, valve and solenoid hammer.

I am typically bad at posting progress on any projects I do because I put it off until I have way too much done, then it seems like too much work to catch it up.

I'm starting early, and I plan to keep up this time.

I am shooting for a 16fpe .177 gun that will have at least 50 good shots per fill. If I get 12-20fpe.....that's fine. The gun is gonna be for target shooting at longer distances than my 753 is effective at.

Valve is .200", throat is .140", and transfer port is .100.....stem is .078". Concave seat with delrin valve.

I like the pellet loading into the rear of the barrel like the Mac1 guns......so that is the idea I'm going with.

I also like the idea of possibly being able to tune electronically.....so that's why I went with the solenoid. It will be a capacitive discharge arrangement like the Daystate.

I ran across a picture of a USFT/EV2 hybrid that somebody made, and I really liked it. http://airgundevelopment.com/custombuild/karlcaron.html

Here are some pictures of my beginning.
