Water separator for small compressor

There is a write up on a new dryer from Hill, the dry pac pro, on hard air magazine.
I have been using a vertical aluminum oil/water separator with my Yong Heng. I have considered putting a cold pack on the aluminum body while using it to enhance the condensation aspect of drying.
That’s a nice unit and an excellent video.
 
If I’m understanding you correct from one of your posts, you are referring to chilling air on the intake side using copper tube.
If you are think on the HP output side you’ll want to make sure the copper can handle 4500 psi or whatever psi you are pumping. I don’t know the max psi copper can withstand in the various wall thicknesses.
the intake side isn't high pressure.

the intake pressure is not a high pressure input. if you utilise a regular 150 ps1 compressor with a dryer coil as the air supplier you are only getting maybe 100psi at the inlet

this is for the inlet low pressure side .... maybe 100psi with a typical general purpose air pump. there are many videos out there which shows cheap easy do-it-yourself techniques for drying air going into a compressor tank

You might think it’s restrictive but it’s not. A bucket of ice water will not drop the dew point to -40 degrees, which is the standard for “dry air”, otherwise known in the scuba industry as grade E air. Your coils will take some out but not all. Is it adequate for a PCP, maybe. Not for my guns.
i got one of those shiny water separators with the cotton and charcoal stuffing and blowing through is very restrictive. i tried that system.
 
yep, i have seen them installed by many people. it's not efficient. what is the pressure and volume going into these filters and what is it going out??
Those filters are meant for drying/filtering HP air from the discharge side of the compressor. It is not meant for the intake side of the compressor. If you are pushing 100 or so psi through that mini filter it will most likely be passing plenty of air through it to satisfy the required design intake volume.

but the fact is those outlet high pressure filters are very restrictive. isn't that a fact? so it takes maybe twice as much effort to provide the dry air needed. that's more strain on your pump.
