N/A Webley Hurricane vs Daisy 777

@scottblair , Even though at 70 yrs I am virtually a babe in swaddling clothes compared to you. I do not have the pedigree with air pistols that you have had in the past. I came to the SSP game just a few short months ago. I have had 2 717s, both nice shape, but needed resealing, even I could do it. I paid one 717 forward to fella I know in TX and the other 717 is likely going to Oregon in swap for some aluminum arrows.

The two 777's I have are the result of having the money when they became available and moving on the purchase quickly, no quibbling. I had to buy the pair and it appears they had been sitting in their display and shipping boxes since circa '86. After rebuilding and shooting them. plus getting an aftermarket wood Ambi grip I really enjoy shooting them. Depending on the day, I like to shoot the 777s more than shooting my Rinked grip 46M. I'm just a dinker and plinker and the 7xx's meet that.

I think a really nice 777 is worth waiting for and how much you pay is up to you. When I got a Daisy 7xx I hurriedly gave away my P17.

Things that make the 777 nice is the rear sight, wood target grip but there are nice aftermarket ones that will fit on all three of the 7's. Did I mention the steel full adjustable rear sight over the plastic sights on the 717 and 747. Then the slightly adjustable trigger and like the other 2 7's you can slightly adjust the power up and down easily with no take down.

Well kiddo, when I was your age..........Haha.
After reading everything I could find about the D700's, it was very apparent that finding a 777 in the near future was not happening. So I was about to bid for a 747, When I received notice from EB that a 777 was just put up for sale in the mid $300 OBO range. Very good condition by the pics.
Kinda high $$. I thought, I'll make an offer. Then,, woke up and realized trying to save $30-40 bucks with this kind of luck, that could sell at any moment, would be nuts. Like you said, "no quibbling" So I Clicked the "buy now" button!!!

Had to pinch myself a couple hours later thinking...can't believe I scored a 777 so quickly,,,did that really happen?!!

My wife wishes id shut up about it, lol.
Have fun!

This will surprise many as the 777 was the most accurate of the Daisy group of 700 series, but even in its most basic 717 form, was known for winning many a pistol shoot (outside of true target shooting competitions) and a few sillouette shoots beside.
However, it did NOT surprise me how well the Hurricane did against it here and is my experience.
For some reason the Hurricane proved exceedingly accurate in some shooters hands compared to the rest of its overlever cousins.
I think often overlooked in favour of the more compact, better looking Tempest, it can actually trounce it in a shoot off.
Never could quite pin it down to one thing in particular, even after having worked on dozens of both, but I believe a build up of features got the Hurricane into semi target status that the Tempest could not attain.
The overhang to the rear of the grip definitely seems to define a better grip and balance. The sights giving a better sight radius. Precision adjust sights and a better picture.
The Hurricane is a much better gun than people think but largely went unnoticed alongside the Tempests and beautifully engineered Premiers/Seniors in the display cabinet.
That was a surprise

When it comes to Webley pistols, I rate the Hurricane at the top, simly because you can mount a red dot without changing the looks radically, and shoot it really well. (Don`t mind the RD on the Tempest. It worked as a test, but ruined the look, so the barrel clamp and sight went back to the drawer).

I liked your post. Very nice to see these set up like this. What about a smaller micro Reflex on that ramp cut down by a 1/3rd to 2 screws ...

For anyone wishing to tune their Tempest/Hurricane/Premier for a tad more power and accuracy..,I have a formula.
It's tried and tested, based on more years than I care to remember, going from one set up to the next until I finally arrived at something which worked.
The gun wants a slip ring in an attempt to isolate felt torque. To do it, it requires a Delrin washer approx 3mm thick but down inside the piston, not sat on the guide rod like you might think.
The guide rod is hardened steel which already makes for the ideal bearing but also you do not want to be robbing any of its quite short length. Leave it be with a dab of PTFE grease. Leave the Moly out, it can slow a pistol a touch.
I've occasionally noticed a rough spot down inside the piston from the boring action, another good reason for having your slip washer down this end.
I've made these rings from Phosphor Bronze for Seniors when not wanting to to introduce plastics into an all metal gun but I see no reason to not use Delrin in later Webleys with Plastic seals.
That's about it for the none skilled, apart from choosing Hobby pellets which seems to seal the barrels reasonable.

The next stage is more tricky for the skilled tuner but you are looking at trying to increase stroke by skimming the front face of the piston seal. About 1/6" will add about approx 30 fps. You cannot go too much more due to risking a collision of the cocking link and the end of the piston flange. Usually about 1/8" clearance or so from model to model..

I have 717 and 777 , like the 777 much better even though it has the same bolt action feel .
I think all the 7x7 pistols use the same bolt. 777 has a Walther Lothar, (Lothar Walther?) barrel, adjustable trigger, wood target stocks, forged steel piston lever, higher front sight and steel rear sight with adjustable width notch.
