Beeman Weihrauch HW30S($4.40) for less than a McDonalds Happy Meal($5.69)

Recently rescued this neglected HW30S from a local auction house. Cost less than five bucks out the door, so can't complain about its looks.

This one is stamped with Beeman's Precision Airguns Inc., but no R7 branding. The Weihrauch website dates it to 1977 and the R7's first appeared in the 1982 BPA guide.

Can't beat that price with a stick. It may have been fired with the barrel cocked in the down position and slammed up and broke the stock. Check the barrel for upward bend.

That would seem to be the case. The barrel isn't visibly bent, so maybe the stock dampened the inertia when it slammed closed. Ordered some Brownell's Acraglas to fix the crack. The stuff used to be great, but heard the formula was changed since I've last used it.

Be sure to tighten the tape. It will improve your groups.

You scored!!

Got around to pulling the spring and piston today. Looks like leather seals were still used in 1977. The leather looks good and will be reused. Spring and breech seal on order from J. Maccari.

Velocity tested the gun before disassembly to kind of get a base line for comparison later.
H&N finale match light 7.89 ..... 534fps
That's right at 5fpe which is on the low end. Should be shooting around 7fpe.

Interesting observation_
The cocking lever appears to be bent on the end at the tabs. It was wedged in, so had to use a mallet to tap it out. The piston also has some damage in the spot where the lever pushes on it. That explains why it was audibly raking across the spring. May have to heat it up in order to bend it back.

I hope you ordered the 'pre safety' kit. Or you might be disappointed with the power output. It comes with the proper spacer because the pre safety compression tube is effectively longer
