interesting, then how do you aim without the front ring? I thought the front tunnel was a must.

No just center put the front post on the target. Look at some of the old military sights, rear peep sights and post fronts. Same with some of the long range rifles, like back in the days of the old Sharps black powder rifles, peep sights mounted on the tang, and post fronts. I have had peep sights on some of my Marlin lever action rifles, both rimfire and centerfire, all using the factory front bead sight.
