Good post. The 2 most consistent shooters in our group are myself and my buddy Sam. We are both long time centerfire benchrest shooters. We both shoot pretty much like we do in that game. Front rest and rear bag, free recoil. We try not to touch the gun when firing the shot . I very lightly touch the pistol grip but Sam does not. Everyone else seems caught up in the artillery hold which we laugh at. My wife also shoots free recoil and she will take your lunch money real quick. I will see if I have a pick of our set up to include. Sam shoots a pair of 97s. I really don't see one as being more accurate than the other. As far as why I changed the spring, I was getting shone bad shots that I did not think was me. I know when I shoot a shot that strays because I made a mistake for the most part. So I checked the velocity and was down 100 fps. Spring I took out was not broken but had a double twist, you could see where the break would occur. There is a pic of Sam with his set up. Sam shoots group after 3 shot group at 20 meters that look like 1 pellet was shot. Not 2 or 3 in a row I am talking 10 to 15. I think both his 77s he bought used..View attachment 513768
Can you elaborate on the Titanxl?Mine has krytox and... well something more liike a titanxl spring, custom delrim top hat and guide, soft trigger spring, polish trigger sears...
Yes, Ive got the number one. It needs to be cut off. There should be half an inch sticking out of the tube (so you can screw the piece where the trigger mechanism sits on it by hand, without any need for a clamp). Mine is 4.5 cal. and its about 20 joules. Logically the side you cut needs to be finished too.Can you elaborate on the Titanxl?
I recently bought some those baracuda 8's, but I haven't tried them in my 97K yet. You should try the QYS 8.48 also, they shoot great out of my 97K.I owned both guns in .22 cal, got rid of them long ago, didn't like the slower velocities of .22 cal in a springer, however I recently came across an awesome deal on a new HW97K in .177 and this gun is a different story. Once broken in and the correct pellet was used this gun is a keeper for sure.Took at least one tin of pellets to break in, don't even bother picking the correct pellet until this is done first. I also hardened the stock around screws with thin CA, screws no longer come lose. The pellet of choice for my HW97K in .177 is the H&N Barracuda 8 in 8.44gr. Shoots them around 890fps and accurate as hell, like a PCP @ 50 yards and beyond. This is one of the first springers I have owned that never needed a kit installed or modified. Spring twang is almost non existent after 1000 rounds.
Ever fallen asleep on that puppy? If you are NOT shooting off a rest, and you are using irons/diopter sights, then the 77 long with the long sight radius, maybe with a tyrolean stock, may be best...and it is kinda cute? Those TX's sure are pretty though!

I've had both too and my main complaint was loading the TX. I did have a rather long scope that covered the loading port which I determined might make it easier to load if I had a shorter scope. Short scopes, until now, have been rather scarce except for Bugbusters. I bought a GPO 4-16 scope that is less than 10 inches long. It left the loading port out in the open and loading isn't so bad now for this 84 year old. I also bought a Veyron 4-16 just to see if it was any good. A lot of folks seem to like them. At 1/3 the price of the GPO, I can truly say it's fairly decent and has all the features I want, particularly it's available in SFP as well as FFP. For springers, it does the job too.Loading the pellet is easier on HW 97K due to the larger loading port. As long as you don't have arthritis or dexterity problems in the hands the TX 200 loading shouldn't be a problem.
If you want a 97 you don't have to baby get a Laminate or synthetic stock 97. The Laminate is denser than walnut and beech. The busy laminate patterns make dents and scratches a lot less noticeable if they do occur. theres nothing wrong with my 97stock but I'll show it anyway.I should have never read this post.. sold my tx200 & miss it.. I now have a serious hankering for a 97 for bench use only & free recoil. I don't need walnut as my tx had THE stock on it & babied it too much. I seriously like Record triggers too. Both my 35e have set backs installed for even better. Off to shop...lol
