HW/Weihrauch Weihrauch or Beeman

The HW rifles are beautiful to look at and accurate. My experience is they break springs and must be fitted with an aftermarket spring or kit to make them reliable. If you are willing to spend the money they make fine rifles.

I have a few HW and I love them. But every one I've had to rebuild to get reliability

The Diana rifles are just as accurate and last longer. The Cometa rifles too. They are much less trouble and expense and are every bit the rifle as the HW albeit not as pretty.

I like the .22 over the .177. Honestly there is not much difference once you learn your trajectory.

I recommend the Cometa 400 gas ram rifle in .22 cal. for hunting. The Diana 34 or 350 in .22. The HW95 in .22. In that order. They are all fine rifles and will make you grin. You'll love any of them.

You can buy 3 cometas or 2 Diana's for the price of an HW and a spring kit. Figure the extra cost of a kit in when considering an HW because YOU WILL NEED IT. The others will run thousands of shots before repair but you will need to modify the HW soon after purchase or get a kit installed from the dealer at extra cost.

I think you will like it, assuming it hasn’t been man handled or somehow messed up.

Maybe keep your ear to the ground for a .22 cal barrel. (I converted mine a while back from .20 to .22 k mainly due to the amount of .22 cal pellets I have and wanting a carbine length barrel)

These have a big ol’ spring inside and should be basically bulletproof. Had mine since 1992 and still going strong.

Should be a good starting point for a quality springer.

Good luck!

Well guys...thank you for all of your input. Yesterday I ran across an auction for a Beeman R1. On a whim, I submitted a bid, Last night I found out that I won the bid. So I guess I'll be shooting an R1- for better or worse.
It's a .177 so I still may be in the hunt for a .22 at some point.
R1s are great rifles and can be found at great values. I have one in 177 and .25 and have no complaints. You may want to use mid to heavy weight 177 pellets

The R1 is the same rifle as the HW80 and HW80's are still in production, which is good for you when it comes to parts availability.
