Have any of you 3D printer guys ever thought about or tried printing plastic pellets? I figured speed would be off the charts & destabilizing but I was thinking about guys who are "locked down" in winter & shooting in their basements. Don't think I've ever seen a thread on here regarding this. Got me curious.

I believe that there in fact was a brief thread last year regarding some sort of plastic pellet, not necessarily 3D printed, but along those lines. It was in the 'Projectiles' Forum.
While a can't recall the exact wording, I think that even Ballisticboy hadda reply in that thread (?).
I might be dreaming, but I believe it's true.

I can see them working in a low power .177 pistol.

I like the idea of 3d printing sabots for the big bore ammo.

They were available in the late 1950's / early 60's as I recall.
I only saw them in .177 wadcutter style. They were very light, and hopelessly inaccurate beyond a few yards even from a rifle barrel.
I don't know who made them, or where.

Many years ago someone gave me a bunch of "Hyper Velocity" plastic pellets with an in-bedded BB (or small bearing) to try.

I only fired one through my FWB124 and didn't like the harsh shot. The pellet might have gone supersonic but it was almost like dry-firing the springer - NOT GOOD

Had forgotten about those projectiles, might try one in a PCP just for giggles.

As a teenager (back in the 60's), I experimented with adding BBs and nails to the .22 caliber pellets for my Crosman 101. Learned then that it was a waste of time and effort as those abortions were way too heavy and nowhere as accurate as normal pellets.

I still think the to be true with the composite pellets being marketed today - expensive, gimmicky and not practical.

At least no one said I'm an idiot for asking (yet). I tried some kind of "penetrator" pellets with sabots waaay back in my 1st year of pcp's. That's not what I really meant. I meant a TRUE Diabolo shaped repro.
