Call me Racketpro,
I am new to this forum as I am new to air-gunning. I am in the Navy and am currently stationed in Virginia where half a year ago I noticed rats bothering my dogs in the back yard. I did not care for my neighbor's sheds holding these little varmints secure so when a buddy of mine asked if I wanted to borrow his center fire rifle I asked if I could just borrow his air rifle instead so that I wouldn't get arrested. Well, let me just say this; I was hooked from the moment I took a shot in the backyard with just a flood light and found I got a head-shot on a rat. I have fired rim and center fire guns and rifles before as I am in the Navy and have Camp Allen down the street but nothing can be finer then getting rid of vermin in a humane, quick, and fun way without worrying about your pets being poisoned. One month later I bought my own break barrel (Umarex Octane 0.177) and got rid of most of the rats in my backyard. Come to find out the neighbors had no problem with me dispatching these vermin as they did not want them in our neighborhood either. I started watching rat dispatch from UK Youtube videos and was amazed at the accuracy of these guys with pellet rifles and night vision. I fashioned my own night vision set-up but due to the mule of an Octane, found it difficult to hit these rats at night, which is were they started only appearing after their buddies had been eliminated during the dawn hours. I decided to buy an PCP and after many weeks of searching for the right fit, I pre-ordered my first PCP air rifle. Well, here I am 6 months later and have just completed setting up, mounting, sighting, and calculating FPS, and calibrating my first PCP. It's the picture on my avatar. I hope to continue air-gunning and also hope to produce some nice American videos of farm dispatch here in Virginia or wherever I get stationed.
SPECS:
Umarex Octane 0.177 with cheap Chinese scope as factory scope pooped the bed, just as this Chinese one is starting to do.
Pellet of choice: Winchester HP (955 FPS). These pellets are heavy and cheap but they are accurate in this gun, just have to clean them first.
The Winchester Pointed (985 FPS) is not as accurate
Have tried most Crosman (Destroyer 7.4(1111 fps) 7.9(1093), Wadcutter (1107 FPS), CPHP (1135 FPS)) and Stoeger Wadcutter.
Have tins of Piranha 10.5 gr waiting to be opened and fired
RWS Superdome (1090fps) and Supermag (960 fps) are also both accurate and I buy these when on sale.
FX Impact PCP 0.22 with Aeon 8-32 SW 50 Obj scope.
Pellet of choice: Started with JSB Jumbo Exact Heavy (778 FPS) as these forums and FX suggest, but Crosman Premier HP is just as accurate at 20 yards just couple mil dots higher.
Is the FX impact too high a caliber PCP air-gun to start with? Heck yeah but I wanted something that I would be proud to own and the adjust-ability is incomparable.
