Well This Is Getting Pretty Boring

Sorting these new to me AEA Center Punch pellets is getting pretty boring. Has anyone determined where they are made? Who is making them for AEA?

I looked at the 45 grain JTS and AEA pellets side by side and could find no difference. I believe they are made at the same place. The JTS pellets are made in China as far as I know. The consistency so far has been much better than the JSB offerings have compared them to. I hope the competition drives improvement in both cost and uniformity.

I wonder what would folks be willing to pay for pellets guaranteed to have certain tolerances of head size and weight? 50%, double?
I hate to imagine paying even more for pellets than they currently cost, but the frustration of hours spent weighing, sorting etc. or just accepting flyers has to be worth something.

I do not think cost is the question . production number is , if it is not available it doesn't sell . Look at what you just posted many different pellets on just one tin , so how many pellets of each size in a million tins ? That is a lot of sorting and packaging and more importantly time .
Also most people the world over are not that concerned , as long as it hits minute of soup can they are happy .

I shoot a lot of pellets and would certainly not want to pay more for them. I don’t LIKE sorting pellets but I do it. That said I would probably - reluctantly - pay up to 25% more if they were guaranteed to be “perfect” and that’s not gonna happen at that price point so I’ll keep sorting and shooting and still getting a flyer every now and then.

I agree - there’s not a big enough market out there to justify the production cost.

so you sort for size and weight . now, say you have 90 pellets all the same. if you then roll test , that makes sure all the pellets have the same head and skirt dementions . NOW you have real match pellets . (at least my opinion )
I have no idea what the manufacturing of "match " is i have the feeling that it is possibly a new die for the first ( ? 10 million) pellets .

I bought a Pellet Gage - used it for a while. I found that FX pellets were very consistent in head size - more-so than the same pellet branded JSB. So I stopped using the Pellet Gage, sold it, and pretty well standardized on FX .25 34 grain pellets. I refuse to get involved in roll testing. That would take entirely too much time and too many beers. Besides, pellet skirts become pretty uniform when pushed into a barrel, so no need in my opinion. I prefer to eliminate as many (reasonable) variables as I can and concentrate more on my shooting skills which, at this time, is reading the wind! Damn...reading the wind is the biggest challenge to accuracy!

I could only wish that one day JSB's (FX and Rangemaster) will be that boring to sort!!
Kudos to AEA on their consistency

The difference is in the inside of the skirt, it's small but it's there. For me the AEA's, and there is no way in H I'm sorting them, work better than the JSBs in my Mavericks, heck in all of my guns.

Yep..just waitng for the next free shipping day at Utah;)
I also wait for free shipping but I decided to go ahead and order 20 tins of 300 and the shipping is under $10 so less than .50 per tin. They are on back order so I’ll cancel and reorder if free shipping come up soon.

My comments were not intended to replace or be the only offering for any pellet, just a "match" version that is pre sorted and lot numbered. For those who have the time or desire, they can absolutely continue to prep as they do today. My question is what would it cost to have pellets pre sorted, and what would folks be willing to pay? My guess is that it probably couldn't be done for less than double the cost and that not a ton of people would be willing to pay that much.

Knew what you meant and agree with your conclusion!
