What age to start air rifle with youth?

My now 8 year old grandson shot one of my PCPs while sitting in my lap when he was about 5. He liked it a lot better than the pistol his dad was shooting. He just shot in a safe direction, not at any real target. He didn't care to keep shooting so I didn't try and change that. Now at 8 I would trust him a bit more but still stay really close until I am sure he "gets it". But his sister is only 5 and is likely to be there too so we will have to look for the right opportunity. To me the key thing is for the adult (grandfather in my case) to concentrate on the kid and not something else. We need to shot them what to do and then help them do it. Them messing up is us messing up. The other thing to be careful about is having a gun that fits them. I made an adjustable stock for my Prod I will use to make the length of pull suitably short.

I tell the facts and if they make a mistake it will mean a trip to the ER where the doctor will give you a shot to make it stop hurting. 👍
I start them at five, if they're bugging me.
These are four of my grandkids
