What different ways are there to sort pellets? ....for target shooting

Based on the extensive work by yrrah, I size my pellets with custom sizing dies (LEE) and then use the yrrah roll method to further reduce pellet variations. This is very productive for long range (100 yards and further). I would not take the time to do anything other than shoot straight from the tin if I were just plinking or shooting at closer distances. Others may sort by weight or head size, but measuring your bore and sizing pellets to the appropriate size I feel is by far the best method.

This thread may help some in regards to sizing.

Thanks ajshoots... This looks like what the doctor ordered..... : ) I have a bullet sizer. I will do some measuring and see what I need to order. It may be a week or two before I can get set up. I want to shoot it stock...Or almost stock I have a reg put in. Then see what groups I will get after resizing. I have a question. When your trying to see what pellet shoots best.... should you work your way through the pellet shooting testing ...find the best one ...then pellet size the best one? Sorry about all the questions but this is interesting to me. I was in target archery for years and I was into tuning and getting the arrows to hit the same hole at 20 yards and beyond. I find trying to get a pellet to be as accurate as it can be like getting a pellet to fly as perfect as it can. once I get time and get things up and running I will let you know. Thanks Richard

This is a typical sort for me. Weight first (these are Crossman Premium) to get my 8.0 grain pellets. Then sort those looking for the 4.53 head sizes.

Roll the 8.0/4.53s listening / watching for defects as a final sort (typically loose another 1 or 2 in that test).

Takes about 25 pellets to get 10 of the same weight/headsize for target shooting. The rest turn into hunting pellets.
