Tuning What do you preffer for bluing preservation and general anti-rust treatment?

I mean Napier's Power Airgun Oil, Ballistol, MP5, etc? I've been using the Napier Airgun Oil for the bluing and barrel cleaning for several years now and recently I got some Ballistol to try out. For my blued guns I like the Napier stuff. For the Stainless look I favor Ballistol. I think it cleans the nickel surface better. What's your take?

For exposed areas almost any good gun oil will work. But for hidden areas in a humid environment, especially where metal contacts a wood stock, I found Hoppes Gun Grease to work better than anything else I have tried. Not surprising since it is specifically intended for protection against rust during long term storage. I don't know what is in it, but it definitely works. Whenever I work on a gun I recoat the hidden metal surfaces with Hoppes before replacing the stock. I have had no more problems with rust since I started doing that.

Pretty hard to beat wax for a protective barrier. Something like paste wax works well but Renaissance wax works even better and lasts longer. It works wonders on Blued metal, stainless steel, wood or synthetics. Works great inside the bore too!

Have a good one.

Have used the renaissance for years on deep blued double barrel shotguns in the rain and snow and has always worked great and protected.
