What is Acceptable Percentage of Error for a Guage

I just bought a Scandinavian Arms SA ADJT SB valve for my 2 liter tank.

It is an extremely well made valve, it operates perfectly, except for the fill gauge reads 20 bar high.

I have compared it to gauges that I know are correct.

I have emailed Scandinavian Arms twice and haven't heard back from them.
I have talked to the dealer I bought it from and their answer was this is an acceptable amount of error in a gauge.

I feel this is too much error, especially at the price they charge for the valve.
Maybe I'm being to critical?

Would your dealer exchange it? You spent a lot if money for I would assume a dependable and ACCURATE high pressure tank set up....I have a RAW that has a pressure gauge that is 40 bar off but my Great White fill tank is ACCURATE so I am not worried about over filling accidentally.

It may be easier to email the manufacturer directly explaining the details and requesting to get an accurate replacement gauge. They probably even have test equipment for verifying accuracy and would likely send one off with question after testing.

@Impact701 Any idea who manufactures these valves or gauges for Scandinavian Arms?

Is there a brand or something on the gauge itself? Would think that you would be able to find what they used and be able to go from there.

Just did some looking and didn't see anything on the gauges themselves. Would think that the 3-7% is a standard for the accuracy of the gauges. That seems to be an "industry standard"

I have a slo-flo Joe Brancato value on my SCBA tank and a Alpha filter, both have very accurate gauges.

This SA valve is for my backpack tank.

I could tolerate the tank gauge being off, as I have accurate gauges for filling the tank. But the fill pressure gauge should be accurate.

This will make your head hurt.

1. Determine which standard the gauge or manometer was manufactured to, if any. This will give you the working mechanical accuracy of the instrument.

2. For an analogue instrument, determine the indicator needle width to indicator face increment width ratio and this will determine how accurate the instrument can be read.

ASME Standards:

I would agree with that. My bag tank honestly gets filled by the gauges on the compressor and the fill gauge. I ignore the gauges on the tanks themselves. Only time I use those is for knowing if they need to be filled or not. I have no doubt that they are off by a bit.

That is about 15%? You could call Huma and see what there 'window of accuracy' is. I have always heard the standard is around 3% but have recently learned the builder I do work for is 10%. Corporations are giving themselves more and more room to sell a less than quality product.
By saying they are OK with a 15% variation, that is there way of saying....IT LOOKS GOOD FROM MY HOUSE. Construction guys know what I mean.

Given the cost of pcps, and the amount of air that goes into them, not to mention the scba tanks, 3%-7% discrepancy is the most I'm good with. Ya there is a burst disk in the rifle, and the tank valve, but what a drag to replace, when the gauge should read accurately. I worked for a guy that said, "looks good from my house" and "we're not building a piano" my reply was we don't have to build like Stevie Wonder either, and if the view was so much better at his house maybe he should go there. I worked for him for several years, and he never said that in my presence again.
