What is this?

New barrel. Bore scope shows some stuff in it. Any idea what it is?

Well damn. Any cure for it?

OFG

A good cleaning with solvent and a wire brush should clean it up. Provided that it isn't too deep into the metal. I'd do that and then look at it again.

There's a thread about waxing bores on another board. It's supposed to both improve accuracy and prevent corrosion. It does help, so you might try that.

Lapping the bore with a mild polish like Brasso usually helps with accuracy, so you might try that too. I've noticed that the bore is much smoother (when pushing a pellet through with a cleaning rod) after lapping.

Luck,

J~

OFG,
Most will clean the barrel corrosion prevention coating, applied by manufacturers, with Ballistol and Patch Worm, upon receipt of a new gun. I'd give that a try, as Chuck suggests. WM
Used the Patch Worm & Ballistol first thing. Patches eventually looked clean but bore scope found the crud pretty much down the entire length of the barrel. New Taipan Veteran. Good cleaning requires removing the barrel but do not want to risk voiding the warranty.

OFG,
I'd let dealer know, then follow their recommendation, before any attempt at a "stronger" cleaning. WM

I’m going to say marks like that have been around forever, and most likely small spots like that don’t affect accuracy. But at the same time you don’t like to see it. We see them now because many of us own bore scopes, I have four. I bough a brand new Bergara HMR a while back. Brand new never fired except for factory proof loads and had marks like that. The factory blew it off as “tool marks”. It shot very well. I still didn’t like it.
On the upside, I clean my PB’s much better than I used to and let my borescopes collect dust.
