What is with all the used Caimans !?!

I saw the same thing on the Utah site. I wondered the same thing. On their "deal" page, some are new, some are used. Still, they are on the end of year "deal" page.

Just looked again, there's a bunch of the "beloved" Taipans on sale too. So seeing the Caiman's on sale at the sale time, they are apparently in good company !

I like my Caiman (shorter version) better, but the "X" is good too. I too, have no plan on selling either of mine.

...I wondered if others ran into the issues this shooter had...

...the way mine shoots made me want to keep it...

Not even in the same ballpark amigo...

The Dream pup on its Absolute worst day will out shoot, out trigger, out regulate, just plain and simple a Much better gun.

I can say that , i own and have owned both.. The caiman is the Only gun i have " given up " on and sent back to the dealer..

God knows i tried, and every time i got it close and thinking it was Okay-ish , it would lose it's mind and shoot like poop again... I did hear back from the tech at the the dealer telling the gun was " Possessed " ... Lol

Just speaking from my experience and wish you luck on whatever you decide.

Maybe a bunch of people watched a bunch of youtube videos and bought them and realized it's not quite their thing?

Shooter1721 and others do have that affect on folks with simple minds

To people who are new to the hobby it can be very convincing partly thanks to sheer amount of information out there now and days by all the youtubers. Personally the fact that it has a 10 round mag from the 90s that lets me shoot empty is already a huge no go!

I've tried many guns and IMHO FX guns are incredibly hard to beat for the money. They aren't perfect but very good at just about everything at great price points, with some tweaks they are phenomenal. It's pretty hard for all these other guns to compete while commending 1500-2000 dollar price tag, had they been cheaper I bet there won't be as many people selling them. I foresee when Covid dies down, stimulus money finally goes away and people who want a gun all got a gun or three, all the other companies will start to feel the pinch trying to sell 1500-2000 dollar guns. Even the incredible L2 is in stock everywhere now while FX anything is still like leprechaun pot of gold.

...I could see where the magazine would be a deal breaker...that was the "other thing" that put me off this rifle a bit...they are difficult to load as well as expensive...

...I am pretty shur you can double feed this rifle as well as shoot it empty, too, but I haven't tried that yet...

...as far as the size goes that is one thing I like aboot them very much...I like how the magazine largely fits into the rifle instead of being an appendage...

...to me that is worth having only ten shots...I am still used to a single shot and not yet totally spoiled... (grin)

...I really like the solid feel / construction as well...I figger it is largely the wood stock that imparts some of these attributes at the cost of some weight...

...the one thing that really put me off the mostly unobtainable FX rifles is an apparent propensity for POI changes from being handled carelessly...

...I did and still consider an available Power Pup but I basically lean my guns on corners around the house n' poop...I was told that would be enough to affect the POI on an FX rifle...

...I try to avoid dropping them or stacking stuff on top of them...that's careful, right...???..

What he said..!

Seems that ol Hapo and I think much the same on may things.

On the trigger(s), it's much too easy to get used to the electronic trigger of the Daystate guns. No...linkage gun can match up to an electronic trigger. If you look at all of the Bullpup designs, I'd bet that 98% of them are basically the same. I know, I have a..."few" of them. MOST...of the time, the trigger "feel" is up to the final adjustments of all of the trigger and linkage parts. Beside the Daystate guns (electronic trigger), the Weihrauch HW100 Bullpup (linkage trigger) have different than the "normal" linkage assemblies that most have, and it is noticeable on the finger.

@hapo: I’m not saying Caiman is a bad gun, I’m just saying it’s hard for me to look at that guns and be willing to pay 1600 US dollars for it.

- If I want a tough gun then I’ll just buy something way cheaper with solid barrel. AEA semi auto would be my truck gun if choice, cheap and tough.

- I don’t see myself handling a 1600 dollar gun carelessly

- mag in the middle is a very nice feature but also makes action a little bigger, everything is a compromise
- FX POI shift can be addressed with some carbon tubes from eBay

- at 1600 dollar price point I would rather save up a few more coins buy a L2…..just me though

everyone is different so if it fits your need better then power to you. I don’t really hunt much and mostly just punch paper so Caiman isn’t really designed for my use case to begin with.

now you tell me picard.1638039399.jpeg

In bold above - That's an odd comment... Where in your vast experience do those exceptional words of wisdom come from ?

That's ALL I DO, is shoot paper with both of my Caimans (and the rest of my air guns !) And for what it may be worth, they perform quite nicely at that task..!

Mike

Hey qball, Im I correct in...assuming...that you don't own a Caiman (X) ?

If this is fact...YOU DON'T KNOW of what you speak...so just go away, quietly.

...I have learned that people don't buy Caimans because they are too expensive and the magazines are only 10 rounds but that does not tell us why people who decided that they were OK with that are now selling...I know of one guy from another Caiman thread that couldn't get his to shoot...mine shoots like magic...(more on this later)

...I appreciate the info on which guns are rugged and how to improve the FX rifles......

...I would consider a trade for an L2 if anyone wants to swap...

...still...the Caiman has a ~16" barrel @ 22" OAL w/o suppressor...I am already kind of spoiled here...

...my Caiman is just over 30" with a DonnlyFL Shogun and adapter...

...this was my first bull pup and it was very weird to me...I am still not entirely comfortable with it...how do you pick it up...???...how do you carry the thing...???...

...I wonder if that is a factor in why they are already getting dumped...first time bull pup buyers...???...

...I would think most would start at a lower price point but air gun guys are funny like that some times...

...this could bode poorly for future Caiman sales... I can see why Utah was not eager to take mine as a trade in...I briefly considered a Daystate Huntsman but that rifle was 36" long to start with...I was already spoiled, eh...

...I am really glad I still like my Caiman, especially seeing as I can't sell it, but now FX people will disparage us Caiman shooters even more...

(Oh look ! He has one of those ! They can't give those away ! ) (grin)

This may be something very real you bring up. From personal experience I know that I went through more than a couple of bullpup sized/styled guns which I couldn't shoot worth a d@mn as compared to traditional stocked rifles.

Guess that I just too new, and wasn't willing to put in the trigger time with something that didn't immediately perform for me as well as other guns in the collection. My dumb, my loss.

But airguns can be like powder burners in many ways. Give a new shooter a choice of pistols to try out, and they may go for the sub-compact first - and find they can't hit anything as compared to a full size/service size pistol. But enough time behind the trigger of anything, and later one finds that the sub-compacts can shoot really well. Same case with me and bullpup airguns.
