What is your favorite rust prevention cleaner?

This thread reminds me I need to do a long term storage treatment for a bunch of my guns ( air and fire ) since I basically only use and shoot a couple.

This is what I use for inside the barrel and outside metal for long term nonuse

I have Frog Lube too but I never use it, I just find Ballistol more convinient and it has done the job perfectly for a long time now,....thanks Hitchcock 45 for introducing it to me.

If you want the best rust inhibitor, wipe your gun down with this stuff and you can just leave it outside, lol.

Fluid Film Powerful Rust & Corrosion Protection, Metal Surfaces Penetrant & Lubricant, Marine, Automotive, Industrial, Home (2 x 11.75 Oz Spray Cans) https://a.co/d/0x4cEeb
That is a non drying lubricant and also conditions wood. I think the Frog has it beat.

I only use the Frog Lube, so I don't have to do anything prior. Just wipe with Frog then wipe off Frog 10 min later. Obviously nothing to do with internals so that is where my other oils are applied.
Ohh I'm sure Frog lube is the superior product of the two, I wouldn't even try debate that and maybe one day I will use it, but Ballistol has been so efficient for me and so easy to apply ( I keep a scope cloth in a ziplock bag well soaked with Ballistol ) quick wipe down of both metal and wood.

That is smart with the cloth. I'll have to try that but with the Frog Lube in liquid format. I like the presoaked cloths for the ease of access.

Not hard to strip your gun and use acetone or brake cleaner to degrease it then apply.
Maybe not hard for one, but do 20 or so and it's a chore ;) ....regardless why would I even do that for since Ballistol has worked perfectly for over a decade ?

Again not debating the 2 products and I'm sure Frog Lube is superior, but if one product works even if it's not top of the line,...why change ? ....dead is dead regardless of caliber 😂😂

I had some Ballistol tested for me in the lab ….surprised to learn that it is merely medical grade Mineral oil.
This is why it was std issue for German soldiers in WW2….they could even use it for cleaning out wounds ….some say its even edible..
However, for me the best ever for rust prevention and a fantastic gun smell is Rangoon oil…
Used by the landed gentry on the finest shotguns…
