What Paper Target Did You Shoot Today

I have been finding that with the HBN, the barrel needs to be extremely clean to start. I thought my barrels were clean, but after a scrub with a nylon and brass brush, i was kinda shocked by how much more was in the barrel.
Mike
Hi Mike, I cleaned the barrel with JB Paste, brush and followed by alcohol patches before mopping it with HBN.

I had a buddy visit today and he shot some of my PCPs.

The RAW could use some tuning but I’ve not had the weather to get it outside. That’s a springtime project. I think he shot the Avenger and Taipan the best. He was just aiming at the center of the circles and letting the pellets land at will. The Avenger was very consistent for him. He had never shot a bullpup before so it took him a while to get comfortable with that design.

Also I found the RAW took some getting used to. When I first picked up mine, I didn't do well. But after shooting for a couple months, it became easier to shoot well. Now, I get one hole groups pretty consistently.

Hello @Steve Milbocker

Boy there is always that "dang one", but still nice shooting.

Thank you. If I could just see the tip of the barely corn against the bull a little better I think I could do better. I just try to sneak it up to the bottom of the bull and hope for the best.

I have been having feast or famine days with these two rifles but had crazy winds to blame.
I knew we were having a light wind day and was in a hurry to get home for some shooting time. I took the shortcut, but the road was closed.so I wound up making it home at five, I was done shooting when it was too dark to see at 5:40.

Here are the results

The targets That I enjoy shooting are Air Ventury Crazy Eights. The paddles on it are 1 3/4" x 9,
So this target explains why I can't beg, barrow or steal a 9/9 on here latley.

I recently added the Marksman target to the trap.
Yesterday I hit three of those paddles in five shots with the HW35e, then couldn't hit a Crazy Eight so I needed to put up some paper to have a look

Hello @.20calguy

At 75-yards with a .20 cal that is some powerful good shooting :D .

Thanks, ThomasT
The 97 has a lot smoother shot cycle, and weight to deal with it, as well as a shorter barrel reducing dwell time. All of my aims are centered when the gun fires. The natural ones hit better than the ones that are a struggle to line up and hold.
The 97 would have done better with two clicks of up. I may have caught that, but I couldn't see the hits until I gathered the targets. It was thick overcast and getting dark, with only the slightest and occasional hint of wind from the left.

In the end, that would have been only about 6 hits on the Crazy Eights out of 17. I usually get all 9 in less than that.
That was why I wanted a good wind day, and paper. 👍

I got a lead on some .22LR handling spinners / shot resetting akin to Crazy Eights above, i think i will have to get me one or two of those.
The one we have, it can not handle the smack so it often just flip right back, so even with 0 misses you have to use like 10 -12 shots to flip and reset the 4 paddles.
Your best option is to hit at the very top of the paddle where the metal are twisted, that seem to pass less smacking power to the target, but then you are also shooting at a much smaller target area, Hence why it take so many shots for measly 4 paddles.

Put up way out past 50 yards and its good wholesome fun, further and it start to become a real challenge.

The Crazy Eights, are 1.75" disks.
I had to hard mount them to get good service from them otherwise they will fold up on you.
I mounted them on a piece of 3/4 exterior plywood drilling two mounting holes. You can also manipulate the grip of the reset rod by changing the angle of the mounting holes getting a good positive lockup on your hits.
The expense of a good lock-up is a little extra friction on the reset paddle. I have concidered adding small o rings to the reset bar to reduce reset friction. The o rings would also reduce noise if that were a concern
The plywood base helps, blocking grass, etc, from obstructing the targets.
I have a habit of shooting them from the inside out because, if you start on the end with no weight on the bar, another shot will smack the end paddle back down.

We done the same. mounting the target on a solid wood base 2 X 5" plank, also to get it a little up from the grass in the field, CUZ it grow like a SOB in the season.

The one we have we have experimented with angling it back and forth, but that have little effect on the FAC rifles overpowering the target and so just flip the paddle back or one of the other you have flipped flip back.
Also contemplated putting some rubber hose on reset bar, for a softer landing, noise not a issue at our place.

We have some other heavy duty spinners with a pig on the lower arm and a smaller bird on the upper, even short distance with a .22 air rifle we can not make those spin, they must be for a bigger caliber, it is also 6-8 mm thick steel.
So hitting those with a .177 even a 16 grain slug as 970 fps, it only make it wiggle a bit back and forth, dont even make it swing 45 degrees.
I dont even think amping my Two to the max and shooting 24 grain slugs will make it spin a full revolution.

These heavy spinners are also greased up, they are warm galvanized steel so as is they did not spin super well, but the grease gave little change.

I'm sure a Texan bore rifle would take care of that pig. 😁
