What Paper Target Did You Shoot Today

thanks, i guess, i am expecting more, with all the 'one ragged hole' kind of comments. but i also know that, those results are from some sort of very stable gun holding set-ups and not with just a wobbly cheap tripod. =)
Hello again @grouch-o

When you see a card that was shot at 50-yards ( or 50-meters ) of 5 or more shots in a "one hole" group, you can bet that 1) that is a well tuned rifle, and 2) it was on a solid bench and well rested.

To shoot MOA at 50-yards should make most folks very happy :D .

Looks like the Zan 68gr look very promising!
yes it does, unfortunately i will have to find a way to 3d-print some new mag covers, so i do not have to single load them.
since the barrel is a tad wider than .30, i will also still use some other slugs. but on the long run, i hope to get a specific mold, so i can cast my own.

Hello everyone,

Shot several warm up targets this morning before shooting this one. Now that I am using the camera and monitor to see each shot, I do not have to “leave” my shooting position or release my grip before making the next shot. After studying the target I noticed one real good improvement, and that is all of the groups are more near dead center of the 10-Ring :D.

Range: 15 - Feet Indoors
Pistol: Diana Bandit .177 caliber modified w/Buck Rail AR Conversion & Grip
Scope: Hawkeye Red Dot
Pellets: H&N Sport 8.18gr Wadcutter
FPS: 475
FPE: 5.9
Position: Bench with Bipod and Lab Jack rear

Nice shooting Thomas. I notice that your shots show vertical stringing. This is usually caused by an out of balance front or rear bag position. You might try moving one or the other forward or rearward in 1/4" increments to see what changes that makes to the shape of your groups. Since your rear position is likely controlled by the butt of the pistol grip its likely you don't have any way of moving that. So, you might try moving your bipod mounting position forward and rearward, one groove at a time and see if that makes any difference?

One other thought ... When using your bag jack make sure that you are always on the same side of the threads, after adjusting your vertical. i.e., if you move your jack down, go past where your aim point is then bring the jack back up to your aim point, every time you break a shot, or vice versa. Hope that makes sense???

Hello @igolfat8

You are correct, I just need to concentrate a lot more. I shot some really tight groups on the warm up targets but they were NOT as centered on the 10-Ring. I really don't like the Lab Jack ( this model ) it is a bit "light" weight and does offer some movement vertically. I printed more targets this morning and plan to shoot a lot more later on today. I will TRY to concentrate a bit more 🤪

Thanks for the help,
ThomasT

Hello @igolfat8

OK Tim with your observation I made an adjustment to my shooting position with the Pistol. As you can see I eliminated the Lab Jack and used a small bag for the Pistol Butt to rest on. A lot harder to adjust for each shot but a WHOLE LOT more stable.

The Blue Star indicates “shooter error” by not compensating for a little un-regulated Pistol getting low on air  . I did correct my hold on target #4. On target #5 that is 3 shots in the Green circle and 2 shots on the Blue circle.

Thank you again for your advice and help.

The secret with the lab jack is to adjust crosshairs/dot to be below your intended POI by a half inch or so. Then when gripping butt of pistol push down on jack to bring POA up to intended POI. More difficult to describe than to do. If you load the jack like this, your hold will be remarkably stable. Try it.

Yes, I’ve used that method Ross. Thanks for sharing that tip because it could help others.

I picked up a used P-Rod. Shot this (in pistol form) with a bipod front and bag Jack rear and Bushnell red dot. Initially I tried shooting this at 10M but the dot covered the target so I moved up to 15 feet. At that distance the dot is the same size as a .22 hole so this is doable But still hard to see, even though I did get new glasses today, woooohooo. 3 Shot groups with CPHPs.

Nice groups! Red dot is popular, but not easy to shoot with (at least for me). I'd rather a 1-2 power pistol scope with cross hair reticle than a flairy red dot.

I am transitioning to the indoor range for winter. It is about 40 degrees outdoors but 68 degrees indoors! I am pretty rust but this is a great target for me to get back up to speed.

Life-size flies, 15 of them, on 8.5x11 paper. Unlimited sighters on sperate target. One shot per fly scored best edge. Plugged shots are done using a unfired .177 pellet head (not skirt).

3-points for head shots
2-points for body shot
1-leg or wings
0-points for a miss
45 possible points

Total Score: 28

Hello @drpietrzak

Dang flies crawling all over the place but you found a way to eliminate them (y) . Another nice video.
