I dropped all the parts in an ultrasonic cleaner for an hour, and then into a water displacing oil bath. When I pulled the basket out of the oil, it became apparent that the finish was not only intact, but in excellent condition. Internally it also showed very little wear, and none of the telltale signs of the zamak cast metal breaking down.
I love projects like this. Turning a box full of grimy parts back into a good looking and good shooting historic gun is really satisfying. Interesting what Modski66 mentioned about the 8 gram C02. That explains the loud report and extra noisy clangs on my silhouette targets. The 8 gram cartridges are easy to find. Baker Airguns has them, or you can buy ones intended for soda machines off Amazon.
Looking forward to giving the old gal another workout today, and getting some chrono readings. Along with the Schimel, I'm shooting these as well today. Just did a trigger job on the 2300S, and the Airbug is brand new, just showed up yesterday.
