what scope would you recommend?

I also believe the Hawke Vantage line is a great place to go for an inexpensive scope that works well. I have a 2-7 on my Prod. It replaced a Bug Buster that would not hold zero. UTG gave me a return number and then disappeared. So I was out the price of the scope and the return shipping. I won't be buying any more UTG scopes.

I have an Arken EPL-4 6-24 and two Vector scopes. A 6-24 Veyron and a 8-32 Sentinel. THERE IS NO WAY EITHER OF MY VECTOR SCOPES HAVE GLASS IN THE SAME BALLPARK AS MY Arken. I like both and have the 8-32 on my P35-177 right now to shoot 30 yard challenge targets with. I shot my first 200 on the 30 yard challenge with that scope. But I shot my second with the Arken despite 8X less magnification because the Arken is that much more clear. I may buy another Veyron, I like their features and size, but it will not be because the glass is great. In my experience it is good but not great glass. My two Athlon scopes also both have better glass than either of my Vectors. I accept that individual copies of scopes can vary but I think if you found an Arken to be inferior to a Vector there was something wrong with the Arken. Badly misadjusted or broken. Hawke, Athlon, and Arken are known for their no questions asked lifetime waranties. If I remember right Vector scopes have a 5 year warranty. Not bad but not comperable.

I've had two Vector Continental 5-30's, a G1 which broke, and a G2(or at least the one with the newer turrets - vintage a year ago) and I'd say the IQ is better in the G1 I had. The IQ in my G2 is definitely mediocre at best. In fact I used it for a few days recently and it was disappointing enough that I took it off and basically it's been relegated to a back up scope now. That's fine I need a back up scope anyway.
The scope on that gun before was a Meopta Optika 6 5-30 that has great IQ which is very pleasing to look through.

My Athlon Helos G2's have superior IQ to my Continental.

I looked through a newer Arken last year and it had better IQ than my Continental.

Pretty much not considering Vector anymore since the Continental is their flagship scope.

Are you sure? I've never seen a scope that wasn't adjustable. All the way back to when scopes were 3/4" in diameter...

What brand and model do you have?
It is the scope that came with the gun. It is a Ruger Blackhawk .177 break barrel, the scope that came with it is a 4x32. I did not find any adjustment on it in the front or back. However, the front lens fell inside the scope, and then I took it apart far enough to put the lens back in place. In that process I was able to set the front lens in place so that now I can see through it with my glasses on and be in focus.

Glad it worked out!
This might be the easier way. 😀

That sure would have been a lot easier, but like i said my scope has no adjustment, if I turn the rear, it is just taking the rear bell off. As soon as I turn it the bell loosens and gets slopy leaving the hole rear lens and bell wiggling around. The front has a ring that holds the lens in place then the lens, then the outer ring. I just kept taking it apart and moving the placement of the lens until it was back in focus, then locked it down. Now I check it to see if it is still tight around every 25 to 30 shots. Thank you for your advice and feedback.

Man not to sound snotty but throw that scope in the trash and get a better one, one that has a lifetime warranty!

When I was in a not so great financial position many years ago I'd sell stuff I wasn't using to buy better quality items. One example was my wife had a garage sale and made $700 on baby clothes and other female-ish junk, and this was 35 years ago. Of course I didn't benefit much from this but I was like WOW, I can't believe she made that much money!
But aside from that I've sold some stuff for more money than when I bought it, then redistributed those funds into higher, and higher, and higher grade shooting items as the years went by.
It's a strategy I'm not sorry I did and that's worth pursuing for sure!

This would be a good choice for your application.

This site has good scope info.

Hawke has excellent warranty along with great CS if needed. I am on my 86 trip around the sun and really like this Hawke model om my HW95K which I shoot wearing eye glasses.

I am planning on selling things I no longer need, and plan on doing a rummage sale soon. Hopefully then I can upgrade not only the scope but a better rifle to put it on. I don't think you are being snotty; I retired just 17 months ago. so now getting used to more free time but less money. Your right better equipment is a good way to go. Thank you for the great advice.

Not my experience at all with Arken. My buddy who had the Arken, sold it and bought a vector. Maybe it was a bad copy. I dont know.
Was your buddies Arken the new LH series? That might explain our different experiences. I have a EPL-4 6-24. At the time I got mine it was Arken's least expensive but since then they've introduced the LH series which it looks like is nearly $100 less expensive. That would also make a LH closer to a Vector Veyron in price. I know nothing about the glass quality of the LH, I've never even looked through one. My comments relate to my EPL-4. It may not be fair to compare my Veyron or Sentinel to the EPL-4 when there is over a $100 price difference. But my Veyron was about the same price as my Athlon Talos 6-24 and I also think the Athlon has better glass. But, as I think I said, I may buy another Veyron. Their glass is not bad at all and they are nice compact little scopes with a nice reticle. Glass is important but certainly not everything. A Veyron might have better glass than a LH series Arken. My main complaint with my EPL-4 is I cannot see the reticle at 6X. It's too fine. I don't have that issue with my Veyron.
