What should be the next power source for airguns

Any other propulsion source ... Lol, would theoretically no long make them an Air Gun.
Get your question ... just poking a hole in the question & All in fun just having the conversation

Years past we have seen Either ignition is a spring piston rifle ( Production too !! )
Pure Nitrogen
Helium
Co2
And quite likely other Inert gasses so long as sufficient pressure is available.

COST of the propulsion miens generally dictate marketability

Could it be a piston system setup purposely for dieseling? Almost a hybrid if you will, a gel fuel that fills the combustion chamber….. I know bad idea but hey thinking outside the safe box.

Vaseline guns!

I think there was a springer made with an oil port to make it diesel intentionally. Seems like I saw a post on that.

The sky is the limit if you design a gun to diesel. Hair gel, gasoline, ether, pumkin scented candle wax...

I don't think it's the new wave of airguns. Too much liability. Someone will squirt too much hairspray in the barrel and hurt themselves.

I know pressurized helium is being used to make fast guns. I expect someone to make a PCP using helium and market it. It just seems the easiest way to make pellets go faster without using propellants.

I saw a magnetic impulse rifle on youtube. It was in production a few years ago. I don't remember the details but I saw a couple reviews.

It's neat technology. You could get a lead bullet going really fast. You could get a steel bullet going faster.

The army has a big rail gun research project about 40 miles from my house. They shoot distant targets and launch different things at high speed. It's right over the mountain from the light gas gun I posted above. The navy is testing their new railgun to be mounted on a ship there.

They have a small arms design like a bb gun. The magnet only moves forward an inch or so but it moves REALLY FAST. It has a plunger that knocks a steel bb out the barrel really fast. It will cycle at incredible speeds. It won't accelerate a projectile like a railgun will. But it uses the same principle to mechanically launch a bb.

You could put an electromagnetic "spring" in your breakbarrel instead of a gas ram or coil spring. Plug it into a battery pack on your belt. It would still be an air rifle...
