What should be the next power source for airguns

They took the centrifugal machine gun tech and use it to launch rockets. About 35 miles north of where I live...

so the spinning would make a Gyroscopeic effect to insure the cant of the gun would always be perfectly vertical . Matter of fact it might not be possible to hold the gun off 0 degrees cant. ?

I'm not sure. I've never thought about it. If the spinning part acted like a gyro the gun may hold itself plumb. I dunno?

When that big SpinLaunch machine gets going it really rumbles. It's got a HUGE wheel in there. The payload exits at 2x the speed of sound. So it's really cookin....

David took Goliath out with centrifugal force. Seems like you could sling a pellet out there pretty fast.

You couldn't push it down a rifled barrel. It takes pressure for that. Stability would need to be achieved some other way. It's just a glorified dogapult.

R12 air conditioner refrigerant ! WOW the EPA would have a fit !!!
Too expensive . . . per the Montreal Protocol it basically can't be made anymore, so the supply pretty much consists of recovered and reconditioned refrigerant. I think the only legal use anymore is fire suppression in submarines.

It used to be used for all sorts of stuff indiscriminately as it was so cheap - air horns, even chilling and frosting cocktail glasses, and unless the leak in a home or auto AC system was really bad (such that it could not last a season) nobody would fix the units, we'd just dump in more R12. I remember people adding R12 to their cars almost as often as adding motor oil, and I did it myself many times.

Vaseline guns!

I think there was a springer made with an oil port to make it diesel intentionally. Seems like I saw a post on that.

The sky is the limit if you design a gun to diesel. Hair gel, gasoline, ether, pumkin scented candle wax...

I don't think it's the new wave of airguns. Too much liability. Someone will squirt too much hairspray in the barrel and hurt themselves.

I know pressurized helium is being used to make fast guns. I expect someone to make a PCP using helium and market it. It just seems the easiest way to make pellets go faster without using propellants.
I like the idea of a gel type fuel and a piston designed like a diesel piston with a combustion chamber. Anything pumpkin spice is never the answer…

A steeply crowned piston and a teaspoon of vanilla extract would be nice.

Seriously, no.

I'm whittling the ends off the springs to tame them now. I honestly don't see the utility in using a propellant to make a springer go faster.

Only a few guys would be interested in any of the ideas on this thread. Brainstorming is fun but I dont think any ideas we've discussed could compete commercially with what we've been shooting for the last 100 years.

The gas ram (IMHO) is a great improvement. That was the quantum leap for springers.

The PCP is "the faster pellet rifle". If there is a rennesance in propulsion it will be with the PCP rifle IMHO. They truly bridge the gap between a "pellet gun" and a firearm.

The basic engineering of spring powered rifles have been perfected to the point we are not going to take them to a new level of power or see a rapid evolution.

Again just my opinion.

I think the best industry can do with springers is make them smoother shooting and more efficient with better barrels and triggers. It's more about doing the basic stuff right from the factory than offering a new, faster rifle.
