What speed range should I be targeting with a 700mm FX wildcat - .25 hybrid slugs? I know I will need to tune it but where should I start? I know they probably like a certain speed with that barrel, just looking for a starting point.

I always started at 920 on mine and went up from there. Mine was set at 980 but I have seen people go to 1040.

Absolutely. If I can't get something to do 1/2 or very close at 50, I don't shoot them. I will say this about the Hybrids, they were very picky for me about having to have the right speed than NSA's are. I dialed in NSA 29.5's at 995 in just a few minutes. BTW I have a FX Maverick Sniper .25cal, so it should be basically the same platform as you have.

I personally start at 950 and work up from there with slugs. When I shoot slugs I like to take advantage of the higher BC so I personally prefer launching them at a decent speed to take full advantage of the flatter trajectory. I always start my testing at 25 yards then move out further. From my experience if they don’t print 1/4 or better at close range it doesn’t get better further out.

Hybrids were also very picky about speed out of 3 different 600mm Impact .25’s I’ve owned. Didn’t matter what mods, reg pressures, I always wound up in a certain speed window with them using standard superior liners.

Maybe the speed sensitivity has something to do with getting the skirt to open up? I just got a new 800mm tensioned slug barrel and was surprised these are not a tighter fit when slugging the barrel. FX barrel is the red one, the other is a .25 LW Polygonal no choke.
